Nate Silver & Maria Konnikova Announce New Podcast “Risky Business” From Pushkin Industries and iHeartPodcasts

NEW YORK – May 1, 2024 – Maria Konnikova and Nate Silver are both journalists who moonlight as high-stakes poker players. On their new weekly podcast "Risky Business" — out May 16, 2024 from Pushkin Industries and iHeartPodcasts — they will bring their analytical framework to everything from politics to poker to everyday decisions. The two friends bring a wealth of experience to the podcast. Maria has a doctorate in psychology and is the author of several books including, most recently, "The Biggest Bluff." While researching the book, she inadvertently became a professional poker player with over $500,000 in tournament winnings. Nate is the founder and former editor-in-chief of political and statistical analysis site FiveThirtyEight, and one of the country’s leading election forecasters. He has over $800,000 in lifetime poker tournament winnings and his forthcoming book, "On the Edge," is about gambling and risk.

Both Nate and Maria will be competing at the World Series of Poker this year. But, "Risky Business" isn’t just about poker, of course. Nate will also bring his expertise as a statistician and forecaster to the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

“We'll talk about the probabilities as well as tactics and strategy around politics and current events,” he adds. “How do things like expected value or game theory affect the decisions that impact all of our lives?”

Plus, listeners will learn how to apply the very same concepts to making good decisions in their everyday lives — from which car to buy or college to attend to what time to leave for the airport.

Recognizing the Influence of Music and Supporting Impactful LGBTQ+ Organizations

  • Nissan’s head of multicultural marketing Lanae Williamson and HBCU Scholars  Amber McKnight, Folusho Adeyemi and Nyla McPherson participated in the “Nissan Thrill of the Possibility Summit Panel” moderated by Charlamagne Tha God. The group discussed their experience at The 2023 Thrill of Possibility Summit sponsored by Nissan and the value of attending HBCUs including a sense of community, mentorship opportunities and one-of-a-kind, rich cultural experiences that can contribute to academic and career success.
  • Will Lucas invited Cliff Worley, head of growth marketing for Kapor Capital, onstage for a live taping of “Black Tech, Green Money” to discuss artificial intelligence and how content creators can leverage new technology to develop businesses and grow their brands. 
  • Mandii B, host of “WHOREible Decisions,” Norm Steele, host of “Gangster Chronicles,” Jelanii Reed, marketing executive, and Glasses Malone, host of “No Ceilings,” participated in the “Content Authenticity x Brand Partnerships Panel” moderated by Tamika Campbell, Manager of Diversity and Inclusion for iHeartPodcasts. The group discussed the importance of maintaining their authenticity when engaging with brands for partnership opportunities. Dre and Exavier from “The Trap Nerds” interacted and played video games with the guests during the tournament and presented the championship belt to the Grand Prix Showdown winner. And, for the second year in a row, aspiring creators had the opportunity to pitch their podcast ideas to Black Effect Network executives at the Pitch Your Podcast booth presented by Nissan. Additionally, State Farm was onsite handing out branded festival bucket hats and provided informational signage and a festival photo spot for attendees.

Paris Hilton and London Audio to Produce All-New iHeartRadio Original Podcast Trapped In Treatment With Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and Telepictures

Podcast Explores The “Troubled Teen Industry” And Is Based on Hilton’s and Other Survivors’ Experiences at Provo Canyon School, Utah.

Trapped in Treatment to Debut in 2022 

Burbank – October 25, 2021 – Paris Hilton, London Audio, iHeartMedia, with Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures are set to produce "Trapped In Treatment," a new iHeartRadio Original docu-style podcast series that will examine and expose the dark secrets and controversial practices of the “troubled teen industry”.

Beginning with Provo Canyon School, each season will focus on unmasking one youth treatment facility, through the experience and stories of its survivors and the traumatizing abuse at the hands of their captors.  Hilton has been at the forefront of creating legislation that regulates treatment centers for troubled teens in Utah after being mentally and physically abused at Provo Canyon School. "Trapped In Treatment" will debut in 2022.

“For 20 years, I lived silently with the memories, and the trauma, from my experience at Provo Canyon School. This past year, thousands of survivors like me have shared their stories, helping to bring into public view what so many of us have locked up. Provo Canyon School will not be able to hide behind the abuse they’ve caused survivors any longer. I am so proud to be producing 'Trapped in Treatment' and can’t wait to take you on this audio journey,” said Hilton.

Hosted by Caroline Cole and Rebecca Mellinger, "Trapped In Treatment" weaves together personal accounts with historical details and expert opinions to shine a light on what really happens at behavior modification centers and how this billion-dollar industry has flourished for so long.  Cole is an entrepreneur, activist and trauma-focused women’s transformation coach, who is also a survivor of a lock-down behavior modification facility, while Mellinger is Hilton's Impact Producer, who is working alongside Hilton to reform the "Troubled Teen Industry" through policy change, public awareness and mental health support.  

"Trapped In Treatment" marks iHeartMedia’s second podcast with Paris Hilton and London Audio. "Trapped In Treatment" will be distributed by the iHeartPodcast Network and will be available on iHeartRadio and everywhere podcasts are heard next year.
