She said she was helpless to stop it, and terrified that she would be killed next. So how did she end up in prison for over a decade on a murder charge?

Over 8 episodes, award winning journalist and host, Anna Sinfield, will trace her way through Harnett’s turbulent life, in search of a clean answer to a complicated question: Who is Kelly Harnett? If you ask Kelly, she’ll tell you she’s a dedicated friend and sister, a jailhouse lawyer and an aspiring DJ. Someone who witnessed her family torn apart by violence and addiction. Who, as an adult, fell into her own addictions and then into one violent relationship after another. 

Until the most violent of all her partners murdered a man in front of her- before pinning the blame on her.  For Harnett, all this crucial context is what makes her a victim but according to the justice system, she is simply... a murderer. 

This story isn’t a whodunnit. It’s not even really about what happened. It’s about how a woman who was a victim of domestic violence became a villain in the eyes of the law. 

 Behind bars in a maximum security prison, Kelly Harnett spent over a decade fighting to prove her innocence. While inside, she taught herself the law from scratch, and became a jailhouse lawyer who fought on behalf of the women locked up alongside her. Women who, like Kelly, had tragic and complex stories. Many of whom had experienced horrific domestic violence before landing in prison.

“The Girlfriends: Jailhouse Lawyer” will get to the very heart of what it means to be both a victim, and a villain - and asks what happens when the line between the two starts to blur? What happens when the woman at the centre of a true crime story… survives?

WHO: Bob Crawford is a founding member and longtime bassist of the acclaimed folk-rock band The Avett Brothers. Known for his versatile musicianship and heartfelt presence on stage, Crawford has played a pivotal role in shaping the Grammy-nominated band's signature blend of bluegrass, rock, folk, and Americana. Originally from New Jersey, Bob Crawford studied jazz at Winthrop University, where he refined his skills on the upright bass. Before joining the Avett Brothers, he played in several local jazz and rock bands, giving him a wide-ranging musical background that he would later bring to the group’s eclectic style. In 2011, Crawford’s young daughter Hallie was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This life-altering event led him to scale back his touring and become deeply involved in pediatric cancer advocacy. He is the co-managing partner of **The Press On Fund**, a nonprofit that supports childhood cancer research, especially in areas that are underfunded like brain cancer. Crawford is also a podcast host and history enthusiast. He co-hosts “The Road to Now” podcast with historian Ben Sawyer, which explores the intersection of history, culture, and current events. The show has featured conversations with scholars, authors, and journalists, reflecting Crawford’s intellectual curiosity and thoughtful approach to storytelling. iHeartMedia Brings Hit Podcasts to a Global Audience, Now Streaming in New Languages

Leading podcast publisher to make 10 top U.S. podcasts accessible in 6 new translations    

NEW YORK – June 23, 2025 – iHeartMedia, the No. 1 podcast publisher globally according to Podtrac, today announced that some of the world’s most popular podcasts  are now available in multiple languages to listeners in new regions around the globe on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts and other major podcast platforms. 

Newly translated iHeartMedia-produced shows include “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” “Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell,” “Stuff You Missed in History Class,” Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know,” “Before Breakfast with Laura Vanderkam,” “How to Money,” “Stuff to Blow Your Mind,” “Betrayal,” “The Girlfriends” and “Murder 101.”  A selection of translated episodes will begin rolling out today and will become available in six widely spoken languages including Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi and Mandarin, with plans to expand to even more shows and languages in the future.
