Chelsea Handler and iHeartRadio to Launch “Life Will Be the Death of Me” Podcast

Handler’s first-ever podcast to debut on the iHeartPodcast Network May 23 featuring excerpts from candid interviews with celebrity friends recorded live from her current book tour

NEW YORK – MAY 2, 2019 – iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally, and Chelsea Handler today announced the upcoming launch of her first podcast, “Life Will Be the Death of Me,” on the iHeartPodcast Network. The iHeartRadio Original comedic podcast, which shares the same title as Handler’s new memoir, which debuted at #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list, will feature interviews between the comedian and her inner circle of friends recorded live from her current book tour. The first episode of the 20-episode weekly podcast will premiere May 23, with subsequent episodes airing each Thursday on the iHeartRadio app.

On the podcast, Chelsea engages prominent TV and film personalities, news anchors and authors in humorous conversations about her life, her work and where she’s headed next. The series coincides with the release of her much-anticipated sixth book – a funny, thought provoking, super-honest, all-true, and relatable memoir that explores Chelsea’s life-changing year of self-discovery, healing and growth.

“Life Will Be the Death of Mechronicles a major turning point in my life, when I got honest with myself and finally addressed the pain I felt after losing my brother,” said Chelsea Handler. “The dialogue I had with my therapist made me realize my emotions were valid. I wanted to write a book that mattered, and I feel the exact same way about the podcast. The conversations you’ll hear will explore the same themes as the book, and to get real about pain, grief, recovery, and taking back control of your life.”

In her memoir, which launched to rave reviews in April, Chelsea chronicles how Donald Trump’s election spurred her to make major life changes. From embarking on a quest to become more self-sufficient to meeting a psychiatrist for therapy sessions to finding her voice as a political activist, Chelsea keeps readers laughing while inspiring them to uncover what really matters in their lives. The spirit of her memoir is brought to life in audio format through the “Life Will Be the Death of Me” podcast, where the comedian dishes on what she’s been up to since writing the book, and what’s to come in the year ahead.

“Chelsea Handler is an iconic comedian with a massive fan base, and we’re thrilled to partner with her on her podcasting debut,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “iHeartMedia’s unparalleled reach will enable listeners everywhere to connect with Chelsea through the intimate format of audio. They’ll feel like they’re right there in the room with Chelsea and her friends for these personal, and sometimes hilarious conversations.”

iHeartMedia Announces “Bear and a Banjo,” A First-of-its-Kind Musical Podcast Blockbuster Narrated by Dennis Quaid

Podcast brings together some of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry including Poo Bear, T Bone Burnett, Bill Flanagan and more

Austin, TX — March 11, 2019 — iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its iHeartRadio platform, today announced “Bear and a Banjo,” a first-of-its-kind iHeartRadio Original musical podcast, set to launch on the iHeartPodcast Network later this year. The podcast will be accompanied by the debut of The Bear and A Banjo album, which will mark the first time a band has used the power of podcasting to release an album.

Created by Jingle Jared, Dennis Quaidand five-time Grammy winner Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd (“Despacito,” “Where Are You Now,” “I’m the One” and “Peaches and Cream”) with musical contributions from producerT Bone Burnett(O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Crazy Heart) and original lyrical contribution from Bob Dylan, each episode of the eight-part series will tell a self-contained story about a character called Mister Bear. Bear is a traveling musician who visits different towns across America and impacts people’s lives before vanishing again. He is often preceded into town by J. Banjo, a charming huckster/card player/preacher/medicine salesman who acts as Bear’s promoter and hype man.

“This is the beginning of an entirely new era of podcasts. With ‘Bear and a Banjo,’ we are delving into a more sophisticated form of storytelling that brings the audience into a lush and rich world – not just through words, but music," said Dennis Quaid.

Each story in the eight-part anthology is based on an original song from the soon-to-be-released The Bear and A Banjo album, written and performed by Jingle Jared and Poo Bear. The podcast is written by award-winning producer and author Bill Flanagan(creator of CMT's Crossroads and VH1's Storytellers), with narration by Dennis Quaid as Dr. Q, who is searching to understand why the band was virtually erased from musical history. Throughout his exploration of the “Bear and a Banjo” story, listeners will learn about the band’s impact, uncoveringwhy the musicians’ history was nearly forgotten – until now.

“The sheer volume of talent that came together to collaborate on this project is truly remarkable,” said Jared Gutstadt, co-founder and president of the Jingle Punks. “It was an honor to work with the best and brightest minds in the industry to create a podcast that is unlike any other. The songs and storytelling will resonate with listeners everywhere, and we can’t wait to unveil it to the world.”

"I can’t wait for ‘Disgraceland’ listeners to hear Season 3,” said Host and Creator Jake Brennan. “They can expect more of the same highly entertaining stories from the seedy underbelly of rock and roll past and present, but with a whole new cast of characters: Kurt and Courtney, Ike and Tina, Johnny Cash and Amy Winehouse to name a few. The partnership will also include a new slate of iHeartRadio Original podcasts led by Brennan set to be released later this year. "Partnering with iHeart allows me to expand the show and the Disgraceland Universe. The primary feedback that I’ve received from listeners since launching was, in a word, ‘MORE!’ More episodes, more stories, more ‘Disgraceland’,” explained Brennan. “Through this new partnership with iHeart, I now have the resources to expand the length of each episode and to invest the time and energy needed to produce other podcast series that will maintain the same high level of production as ‘Disgraceland’ while exploring similar subject matter.”

“Today’s listeners have an insatiable appetite for true crime and music, and ‘Disgraceland’ perfectly blends the two together offering listeners suspense through an engaging scripted series,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “We are excited to be partnering with Jake on both the launch of the next two seasons of ‘Disgraceland’ and also a slate of new iHeartRadio Originals, introducing entertaining new content to listeners across the country.”

Last year, Variety named “Disgraceland” “One of the 10 Best Music Podcasts” and called it the “rock ‘n’ roll version of the Peabody Award-winning Serial,” while Thrillist named it “One of the Best New Podcasts of 2018” and said, “Brennan’s voice is soothing and articulate, and he delivers nuggets of lesser-known information with the confidence and clarity of a creator who clearly loves what he’s doing.”

The audio series, produced in collaboration with Funny Or Die, is a spectacular attempt from Burgundy to relive his glory days and keep up with times.

“The men in the grey suits said I would have utter journalistic control over all of my podcasts and with that, they left. And here we are,” said Burgundy, host of ‘The Ron Burgundy Podcast.’ “You and me and a whole butt load of time to discuss anything...and I mean anything.”

Burgundy, who has a fountain of knowledge that spans literally every topic imaginable, has signed on for two 12-episode seasons, with the first episode of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast” making its debut on February 7 with subsequent episodes to post each Thursday. The trailer and the podcast will be available on iHeartRadio and everywhere else podcasts are heard with excerpts of the podcast distributed across iHeartRadio broadcast radio stations and via social media channels. Season two is expected to air mid-2019.

“Ron believes he is the most qualified person in the world to host a podcast, but everything he says is just plain wrong,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “As I’ve stated before, iHeartRadio was forced into making this podcast with Ron. He has refused to stay away from our studiosand is now camping out in a van across the street where he has recorded upwards of 100 cassette tapes of pure nonsense. We’ve been receiving daily deliveries of these tapes, and quite frankly, I am at a loss as to what to do with them.”

In addition to the official audio trailer, which can be heard here, Burgundy’s fans can also check out some behind-the-scenes video content for a glimpse into the preparation of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast,” which mostly includes Burgundy figuring out what a podcast is.

Presenting sponsors of the premiere season of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast” include Charmin, SafeAuto and Fair.

The Legendary Ron Burgundy is Coming to iHeartRadio and It's Kind of a Big Deal

Launching in early 2019, “The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will be co-produced by Funny Or Die and iHeartRadio

NEW YORKDecember 3, 2018 – The legendary newscaster Ron Burgundy and iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its iHeartRadio platform—both of whom are kind of a big deal—announced today “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” The audio series will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019 and the iconic anchorman is beside himself with glee to once again grace the world with his presence.

“The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will be co-produced by Funny Or Die and is an iHeartRadio Original podcast. This momentous moment will mark the return of the legendary anchorman himself, Ron Burgundy, who has been delighting fans all over the world since the hit movie Anchorman was released in 2004. Burgundy has signed on for two 12-episode seasons, with season one to launch in the first quarter of 2019 and the second season expected to air mid-2019. Excerpts of the audio series will also be distributed across iHeartRadio broadcast radio stations and via social media channels.

"Listen, I don't know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about,” said Ron Burgundy, host of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” “I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life."

“To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”

Ron is still represented by his long-time agent Buzzy Chanterelle of Let's Make Magic Entertainment. Let's Make Magic is a local San Diego agency whose roster includes mostly stunt men, magicians and animal handlers. And let’s not forget Lance Alworth, who he represented for six months, and Chuck Muncie!

"By the way, if iHeartRadio says that I harassed them into making a podcast, it is a lie!! A boldface lie!!” said Burgundy. “Did I call them one hundred times in one day? Yes! But that's called persistence! I have filed suit against iHeartRadio for these salacious claims. I will be representing myself legally, since I currently do not have enough money to hire an attorney."

Burgundy will release an official trailer in the coming months on iHeartRadio and everywhere else podcasts are heard.

Unobscured will launch October 3, 2018 and trailer is available now.

For its inaugural season, Unobscured will explore the Salem witch trials, one of the darkest and least understood chapters in American history. Mahnke will use his signature storytelling to pull back the layers of time and introduce the individuals, traditions and superstitions that together tell the complete story of what really happened in Salem.

Scored by Billboard No. 1 classical pianist Chad Lawson, each of the 12 episodes are intertwined with interviews from the world’s foremost scholars on the Salem witch trials. iHeartMedia and HowStuffWorks have plans to bring this same narrative documentary approach to other misunderstood historical moments through future seasons of Unobscured.

"The Salem witch trials is one of the most infamous and intriguing pieces of early American history, and yet there’s so much about it that we’ve forgotten," said Aaron Mahnke, podcast creator, producer and host of Unobscured. "Through Unobscured, I hope to give those dark events a moment in the spotlight and show just how relevant they still are today."

This announcement comes on the heels of the news that iHeartMedia is acquiring Stuff Media, LLC, the leading for-profit publisher of entertaining and informative podcast content, which includes the HowStuffWorks (HSW) podcasting business as well as a slate of premium podcast content.

“This is a momentous time for iHeartMedia and HowStuffWorks, having just announced that we are acquiring Stuff Media,” Darren Davis, President of iHeartRadio and iHeartMedia Networks Group. “With HowStuffWorks’ expert content producers and iHeartMedia’s unparalleled reach and expertise in all things audio, the caliber of our collaboratively-produced podcasts will be unprecedented. Unobscured is the introduction to this new chapter in podcasting for iHeartMedia and HowStuffWorks."

Unobscured host Aaron Mahnke is the creator, producer and host of the hit podcast Lore (Best of iTunes 2015 & 2016) as well as Executive Producer of the Lore television show on Amazon (from the producer of The Walking Dead) and author of The World of Lore book series (Penguin Random House / Del Rey). Unobscured will be the second podcast produced by HowStuffWorks and Mahnke, the first being Cabinet of Curiosities. Visit HistoryUnobscured.com to learn more.
