WHAT: The Black Effect Podcast Network, the historic joint media venture partnership between iHeartMedia and Charlamagne Tha God announced “BLK LIT,” a new podcast series that will highlight prolific Black authors and their contributions to literature. Hosted by Jacquees Thomas, the podcast will delve into unique literary works including novels and poetry and spend an intimate amount of time with each writer’s expression through interviews, reenactments and in-depth discussions. New episodes will launch every other Tuesday on the iHeartRadio app and wherever podcasts are heard.

In the first episode, Thomas will explore the genre of science fiction highlighting the life and work of Octavia Butler to discuss the themes present in her novels, including race, social disparities, and climate change.

WHO: Jacquees Thomas is a producer and artist with an affinity for filmmaking, storytelling, and podcasting. Thomas has produced diverse projects including “Naked Sports With Cari Champion,” “Damsels: A Short Film” and more. With a passion for exploration and a deep-seated belief in the power of narrative, her mission is to empower black female queer artists by challenging stereotypes and celebrating the richness of their stories. iHeartPodcasts and School of Humans Debut Captivating New Narrative History Series “Rumble: Ali/Foreman and The Soul of ‘74”

Commemorating the 50th anniversary, this original podcast will go behind the scenes of the historic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman and the Zaire ’74 music festival.

NEW YORK – October 2, 2024 – iHeartPodcasts, the No. 1 podcast publisher globally according to Podtrac, and School of Humans announced today “Rumble: Ali/Foreman and The Soul of ‘74.” The original narrative non-fiction podcast, hosted by investigative journalist Zaron Burnett, will commemorate the 50th anniversary of two historic events: the legendary heavyweight championship fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire, Africa and the historic Zaire ’74 music festival that featured performances by the likes of James Brown, B.B King, the Spinners, Bill Withers, and Miriam Makeba.  

Premiering on October 9, the compelling new podcast will be set against the backdrop of a tumultuous political and social landscape across the globe marked by a season of assassinations in the US,  Mobutu Sese Seko's authoritarian rule in Zaire, the fallout from the Watergate scandal, and the Vietnam War coming to an end, The 13-episode series invites listeners behind the scenes with stories of the staggeringly powerful ensemble of fighters, performers, producers and activists, who uplifted the enduring legacy of Black Excellence. Host Burnett will guide listeners through the monumental effort behind and lead up to the highly politicized super fight and festival, which were scheduled to take place on the same weekend as part of Mobutu's strategy to forge ties between Zaire and the United States. An unexpected injury forced Foreman to postpone the fight by six weeks, however, leaving the festival to proceed as planned with Ali ultimately attending, viewing it as a celebration of Black empowerment in the newly liberated Zaire.

The question of whether Elián should stay with Miami relatives or return to his father in Cuba ignited a media firestorm, placing Elián at the center of a high-stakes political conflict between Cuba and the U.S.

Above all, Elián’s story highlighted the all-too common situation many Cubans have faced: painful family separation. 

Our host, investigative journalist Peniley Ramírez, has experienced this separation. At the age of 11, Peniley’s father revealed a dangerous truth to her. He’d be going on an official trip for the Cuban government to the U.S., where he would defect from his home country and never return to Cuba. Throughout the podcast, Peniley weaves her personal story of separation with that of Elían’s, taking listeners beyond the sensationalism of his rescue and into the complicated politics of the Cuban experience.  

“This is the most personal project I have worked on in my entire career,” said Ramírez. “Twenty five years after Elián’s rescue, this case is still relevant to the Cuban community, to the geopolitics of our region and most importantly, to thousands of Cuban families like Elián's and my own, who have been marked by family separation.”

These deeply personal insights add depth to the broader historical and political context surrounding Elián's case. Ultimately, the U.S. government, under President Bill Clinton, ruled that Elián should go back to his father in Cuba. A subsequent raid to remove Elián from the home of his Miami relatives fueled anger against the government. Cuban Americans organized to punish democrats for taking Elián back to Cuba by voting Republican in large numbers in the 2000 presidential election between Al Gore and George W. Bush. The podcast reveals how this punishment vote had a lasting legacy in American politics.

iHeartMedia Joins Forces With Radio Ambulante Studios To Bring Its Full Slate Of Shows To The My Cultura Podcast Network

The slate includes current shows “Radio Ambulante,” “El Hilo” and “Central” as well as the development of two new co-produced podcasts

NEW YORK – September 24, 2024 – iHeartMedia, the No. 1 podcast publisher according to Podtrac, and Radio Ambulante Studios (RAS), a pioneering Spanish-language podcast production company that tells the stories of Latin America and Latino communities around the world, announced today a deal that will bring “Radio Ambulante” and its full slate of shows to iHeart’s My Cultura Podcast Network.

As part of the deal, Radio Ambulante Studios’ flagship, award-winning podcast “Radio Ambulante” along with its groundbreaking weekly news show “El Hilo” and its anthology docuseries “Central” will now be distributed by iHeartPodcasts as part of My Cultura, iHeartMedia’s podcast network dedicated to elevating Latinx voices and stories. Under the new partnership, the two companies will also develop and co-produce a minimum of two new shows over the next two years.

Celebrating the launch of its 14th season today, “Radio Ambulante” has covered stories of love and migration, of youth and politics, of the environment and families in extraordinary circumstances across Latin America, sharing with listeners more than 260 episodes produced in more than 20 countries. It is heralded as the most ambitious narrative-journalistic podcast in Latin America, offering a sound portrait of the continent and anywhere Spanish is spoken. For the past eight years Radio Ambulante, the studio’s flagship podcast, was distributed by NPR.

NEW YORK – September 23, 2024 – After two days and dozens of legendary performances, the annual iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, concluded on Saturday evening at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with unforgettable performances over the span of two days by Big Sean, Camila Cabello, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Gwen Stefani, Halsey, Hozier, Keith Urban, New Kids on the Block, Paramore, Shaboozey, The Black Crowes, The Weeknd, Thomas Rhett, Victoria Monét and a special appearance by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

The iconic weekend-long concert event included the biggest names in music across all genres on the main stage at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 20 and September 21. The House of Music is an immersive experience inspired by the artists who performed that weekend at the festival main stage. This free event was open to the public and invited guests to explore over 12 interactive rooms, immersing themselves in the lives, music, and passions of their favorite artists and brands. Guests got the chance to experience their favorite brands in all new ways and walk away with prizes and limited-edition swag.   • The Black Crowes officially kicked off the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One with a rocking set that saw the band revisiting classics like 1990's “Twice as Hard,” “She Talks To Angels,” “Jealous Again,” “Hard to Handle” and “Remedy,” as well as “Wanting and Waiting” from their latest album “Happiness Bastards.”
  • Camila Cabello delighted the crowd with a thrilling performance featuring BMX bike riders and incredible stunts. She opened her set with her latest hit “I Luv It” and treated fans to songs from throughout her career, including “Havana,” “Never Be The Same,” “Shameless,” “Señorita” and tracks from latest album “C,XOXO”: “Chanel No.5,” “Dade County Dreaming” and “June Gloom.”
  • Gwen Stefani pumped up the energy with her set full of fan-favorite hits like “Hollaback Girl,” “Sweet Escape,” and No Doubt throwbacks “Don’t Speak” and “Just a Girl.” She then performed her latest single “Somebody Else’s” for the very first time from her upcoming fifth studio album, “Bouquet” (out November 15).
  • Fresh off releasing his seventh studio album “About A Woman” last month, Thomas Rhett took the iHeartRadio Music Festival by storm with a set full of his biggest songs, new music and a sweet tribute to his wife Lauren Akins. His set included “Beautiful As You,” “After All The Bars Are Closed” and “Boots” from his new album, as well as hits “Look What God Gave Her,” “You Make Me Wanna” and “Die A Happy Man.”
  • Breakthrough artist Shaboozey, introduced to the stage by fellow country artist Thomas Rhett, had the crowd dancing and singing along during a special performance of his smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
  • Paramore – decked out in retro glam rock – performed an electric set that included their Talking Heads cover “Burning Down the House,” their hit “Hard Times” mashed with Blondie's “Heart of Glass,” a refreshed version of their 2010 hit “The Only Exception” and their new song “Big Man, Little Dignity,” during which frontwoman Hayley Williams took the time to urge people to vote in the upcoming election. The band then ended their set with the energetic “Ain’t It Fun.”
  • Hitmaker Dua Lipa closed out the night with fan-favorites including “Training Season,” “Houdini” and “Illusion” from her latest album “Radical Optimism” and throwback smash hits “Levitating,” “New Rules” and “Don’t Stop Now.”

Night two- Saturday, September 21:

  • New Kids on the Block opened up night two of the iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One taking fans back in time with “The Right Stuff” and “Please Don't Go Girl,” followed by “Step By Step” and “Tonight.” Walking into the crowd to dance with concertgoers, the artists finished their epic set with “Kids.”
  • Big Sean brought songs from his brand new album and other fan favorites to life on the festival stage. Sean even had the crowd singing his early joints like “My Last,” “Bounce Back” and the Jhené Aiko-assisted “Beware.” He closed out with songs like “Who You Are (Superstar)” from his latest album as well as smash hits “Dance (A$$)” and “I Don't F**k With You.” Big Sean also gave a shout out to his father who was watching from the crowd.
  • Keith Urban performed some of his newest songs and mixed in a few career-spanning staples. He kicked off his set with “Straight Line,” the first track he released from his newest album. Urban also included renditions of “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and closed his set with “Wasted Time,” a 2016 hit that included a lyric swap from “had the guns on the radio,” to “Lainey Wilson on the radio.”
  • Victoria Monét opened with popular singles like “Alright” and “Cadillac (A Pimp's Anthem)” off her “JAGUAR II” album. She took it back to her fifth EP with her vibrant rendition of “Ass Like That” followed by an electrifying dance break to the tune of GloRilla's “TGIF.” Victoria Monét closed out with a lively rendition of “JAGUAR” followed by her breakthrough hit ‘On My Mama.”
  • Coldplay's Chris Martin opened his set with hits “Sky Full of Stars,” “Hymn for the Weekend,” “Something Just Like This” and took fans all the way back with “Viva La Vida,” and “Yellow.” The star brought the arena back to the present day with “We Pray” and surprised the audience with Elyanna to close out a refreshingly casual, yet dynamic set.
  • Hozier immediately captured the audience's attention with “Nobody's Soldier.” The icon proceeded to perform 2024 chartbuster “Too Sweet,” as fans repeated his lyrics back to the stage. He serenaded the crowd with “Work Song” and closed out his set with “Take Me To Church.”
  • Halsey delivered an electrifying performance of “Nightmare” and “You Should Be Sad.” Before their next song, Halsey reflected on what it was like to be back at the iHeartRadio Music Festival and reflecting on how performing "hits different" now since their festival appearance in 2022 after they “fought [their] way through a very long hell” through their secret health issues, telling the crowd how they didn't think they would ever get to do something like this again. Changing gears for the next track, Halsey treated the audience to a rock rendition of “Closer.”
  • Doja Cat immediately brought the energy with “WYM Freestyle,” she kept the mesmerizing performance going with “Demons,” staring down the crowd as she jumped around the stage. Ditching the blazer of her suit, she danced and twerked for “Need To Know.” She wrapped up her festival set with “Paint the Town Red.”
  • The Weeknd closed out the iHeartRadio Music Festival wearing a black and gold cloak as he crooned the intro of his new single “Dancing In The Flames.” He was surrounded by an army of red-veiled dancers who broke out all kinds of moves around him as he performed hits like “Take My Breath,” “Sacrifice” and “Save Your Tears.” He remained at the helm of the stage as he belted out his other upbeat banger “Sao Paulo,” “Blinding Lights” and the rest of “Dancing In The Flames.”

The 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival also featured celebrity appearances including AJ McLean, Flavor Flav, Jacoby Shaddix, Joe Gatto, Lance Bass, Tara and Hunter Woodhall, and Tiffany Haddish, Anna Aya, Ekin-Su and James Kennedy.
