iHeartMedia and National Hockey League Team Up To Develop Two New Podcasts Over The Next Year

NEW YORK – December 5, 2024 – iHeartMedia, the No. 1 podcast publisher globally according to Podtrac, and the National Hockey League (NHL) today announced a partnership to produce and distribute two new shows with iHeartPodcasts over the next year. The first show -- NHL Unscripted with Virk and Demers -- launching today, will feature Prime Monday Night Hockey co-host Adnan Virk and former NHL player Jason Demers in a weekly discussion about all things hockey, on and off the ice. Fans can hear the official trailer now, here.

The first show of the series, “NHL Unscripted with Virk and Demers,” debuts today, December 5, with subsequent episodes airing each Thursday. Virk and Demers will provide the latest NHL news and discussion from what’s happening around the world of hockey and beyond. The spirited talk will occasionally stray from the game and venture into topics ranging from food to movies, comedy to wrestling and more. An array of guests will also drop in to join the soiree as hosts Virk and Demers offer up their gloves-off approach to the NHL each week.

Comedian, actor, writer and producer The Kid Mero will be featured in the first episode. The multi-platform entertainment powerhouse has garnered acclaim across various mediums and has been honored by The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute for his authentic representation of Latinos in television through his work and his contributions have also earned him multiple nominations from the NAACP Image Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.

The relationship between the NHL and iHeartMedia will provide access to iHeartMedia’s massive reach across multiple audio platforms including podcasts, streaming and broadcast radio. All shows in the slate will be distributed by iHeartPodcasts and will be available on the iHeartRadio app and everywhere podcasts are heard. Listeners can also visit iHeartSports online to check out the leading broadcast sports radio stations across the country, top sports podcasts and the latest sports news from top teams in major sports on both the professional and college level.

The second show is expected to debut early in the new year.

About Adnan Virk

“I love podcasts, and I love hockey. I hosted a movie podcast called Cinephile for 8 years and 333 episodes and co-hosted GM Shuffle, an NFL podcast with Michael Lombardi for 3 years. I can’t wait to share my thoughts on all facets of the game and I’m confident my past experience will benefit me to keep the conversation fresh and fun. I am, however, less confident in my ability to wrangle in the free stylings of my co-host Jason Demers, because he strikes me as slightly unhinged… but in a good way.”

In September, Virk was named co-host of Prime Monday Night Hockey bringing the skill and expertise he honed at ESPN, MLB Network, DAZN, and WWE to the desk on the NHL’s new Canadian Monday night program. Aside from his work with MLB Network which garnered him a Sports Emmy for MLB Tonight, Virk has also been a frequent host on NHL Network for a variety of its studio programming.

Virk’s parents immigrated to Canada from Punjab, Pakistan in 1984 where the family relocated in Kingston, Ontario. The family owned and operated a gas station and convenience store called Zak’s Variety. Virk’s appetite for sports blossomed as a young child when his morning routine was watching the sportscast on CTV’s “Canada AM” before running to the newspaper rack to check out the latest sports news. He was also very passionate about trading cards and all the information they provided, even going as far as setting up his own retail area in his parents’ store.

Virk continued his foray into the sports world when he studied Radio and Television Arts at Ryerson University, and the rest is history.

“Hockey has always been part of who I am, whether it’s on the ice or off. I’ve been fortunate to stay connected to the hockey world through my work at the NHL Network and I’m super excited to be sharing the sound waves with Adnan on our newest venture. Demers played in exactly 700 career regular-season games from 2009-10 to 2022-23 between the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers. He recorded 20+ points in seven seasons, with his best campaign coming in 2013-14 as a member the Sharks (5-29—34 in 75 GP). He is one of nine defensemen in NHL history to appear in 700 contests after being selected in the seventh round of an NHL Draft. Demers last wore the red and white as part of Team Canada’s National team at the Beijing Olympics in 2022, where he tied for second in the tournament with a +7 while recording two assists.

In 2013, Demers wore a pink suit during Hockey Fights Cancer month for breast cancer awareness and has supported Patrice Bergeron’s foundation for kids with leukemia.

Los Angeles, CA – November 12, 2024 – Today, iHeartMedia and Audio Up is thrilled announced “The Unborn,” a groundbreaking true crime podcast hosted by actress Trisha LaFache (Amazon Prime’s Jury Duty). Set in a small town in Western Pennsylvania, this series delves into the bizarre and chilling story of Jared and Kristy Akron, a couple whose lives were upended by a mysterious and rare condition that turned love and hope into deception and darkness. “The Unborn” will be available on the iHeartRadio app and all major podcast platforms beginning today, Tuesday, November 12.

At the heart of “The Unborn” is Kristy Akron, a woman whose life unraveled when she was gripped by a rare psychosomatic disorder called pseudocyesis (false pregnancy syndrome) —a condition so unusual that it’s only been recorded 44 times in history. Pseudocyesis causes those afflicted to believe they are pregnant, and in some cases, even physically manifest pregnancy symptoms such as a swollen belly, weight gain, and even lactation. For Kristy, this disorder went beyond belief, spiraling into a fantasy of twin babies that blurred the lines between reality and delusion.

“Pseudocyecis is the new Munchausens By Proxy” says Audio Up’s chief creative officer Jimmy Jellinek. “The idea that something like this can even exist much less drive someone to do incredibly evil things is why podcasts exist in the first place. 'The Unborn' will have you saying WTF from beginning to end.”

When doctors informed Kristy that she was not pregnant, she concocted an elaborate charade to sustain the illusion, crafting false ultrasound images, positive pregnancy tests, and even orchestrating a staged gender reveal party. Her husband, Jared, a kind-hearted and unsuspecting man from rural Pennsylvania, became entangled in the deception. Unaware of the depth of her illness, he went along with her narrative, genuinely believing he was about to become a father. But when the truth began to crack through Kristy’s facade, her obsession took a darker turn.

The 2024 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina Presented by Nissan Brought the Biggest Names in Latin Music Together in Miami

NEW YORK – October 28, 2024 – The 2024 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina Presented by the All-New Nissan KICKS celebrated the best in Latin music on Saturday evening with performances by iHeartRadio Corazón Latino Award recipient Feid, Sebastián Yatra, Chencho Corleone, Wisin, Manuel Turizo, Maria Becerra and a special performance by Black Eyed Peas at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on Saturday, October 26. Enrique Santos, President and Chief Creative Officer of iHeartLatino and on-air talent for iHeartRadio, hosted the event celebrating the power of Latin music in popular culture.

iHeartMedia’s Spanish Contemporary Hits, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Tejano and Spanish Oldies radio stations broadcasted the event live in markets across the country and on the iHeartRadio app. Additionally, the iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina was broadcasted across iHeartRadio digital stations including Beso, El Patron, Salsa Bembe, Rumba, Reggaeton Vieja Escuela, La Preciosa, Tejano Radio, La Mezcla Fuego con Dj Xtreme, Latino Top 20, Tropical Top 20 and Regional Mexican Top 20.

This year, iHeartMedia and Enrique Santos presented Feid with the iHeartRadio Corazón Latino Award. Feid received the iHeartRadio Corazón Latino Award for his creativity and impact in the community and industry as a singer, songwriter and producer with music crossing a variety of genres including reggaeton, R&B and Afrobeat. Feid is a multi-platinum, nine-time Latin GRAMMY-nominated Colombian artist, who recently released his new single “SORRY 4 THAT MUCH.” Feid is passionate about how his heritage inspires his work and has been an ambassador for his Colombian culture and community.

Highlights from the 2024 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina include:

  • Aron Luix kicked off iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina with his hit “Vamos a Bailar” and got the crowd on their feet.
  • Maria Becerra took over the iHeart Fiesta Latina stage, and with a stunning performance of her hits “Cuando Te Vi,” “Agora,” “Corazón Vacio” and more.
  • Chencho Corleone delivered an energetic set with his dancers, performing fan favorites including “Desesperados,” “Me Porto Bonito” “Lo Caro y Lo Bueno,” Si No Le Contesto” and more.
  • Wisin brought the reggaeton hits to the Fiesta Latina stage performing “Pam Pam,” “Mírala Bien,” “Fiel” and “Mayor Que Yo.”
  • Manuel Turizo wowed the audience with his set including “Desconocidos,” “Una Lady,” “La Bachata,” and “El Merengue.”
  • Amaury Gutiérrez delivered an acoustic version of “Yo Regresare.”
  • The love song legend Sebastián Yatra had the audience swooning with his gorgeous ballads “Pareja Del Año,” “Traicionera,” “Ya no tiene novio” and more.
  • Before continuing the show, iHeartRadio honored El Taiger’s legacy with a special tribute performance from DJ Conds, Descember Bueno, El Yabo, El Happy and Yonki.
  • Feid kept the energy high with his performance of “Brickell,” “Se Me Olvida,” “Classy 101” and “Luna.” Following his performance, Enrique Santos presented him with the iHeartRadio Corazón Latino Award.
  • Black Eyed Peas closed out the 2024 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina with “Let’s Get it Started,” “Mamacita” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

NEW YORK- October 23, 2024- iHeartMedia today announced “Coldplay’s Moon Music Album Experience: A Gamified Tycoon Adventure,” the first-ever concert tycoon experience coming to State Farm Park in iHeartLand in Fortnite on October 24. Fans can immerse themselves in this exclusive album release event featuring music and newly released commentary behind the music from Coldplay’s hit new album, Moon Music, in this first-of-its-kind gamified music adventure. This first-ever concert tycoon experience is only available in State Farm Park in iHeartLand, and is unique because the entire game is the concert, and the entire concert is the game. This music experience will challenge players to build a rocket, a lunar base, and a concert stage through three phases of challenges, each one taking fans deeper into one of the songs from Coldplay’s chart-topping Moon Music album. Players start by building their rocket launch pad, rocket and eventually blasting off toward the moon. Players unlock new areas, in reactive environments tied to the music, on their intergalactic journey, eventually landing back on earth. While playing the game, fans are able to hear new music from Coldplay’s Moon Music album and in-depth exclusive behind the music commentary from Coldplay.

The “Coldplay’s Moon Music Album Experience: A Gamified Tycoon Adventure” experience will take place in State Farm Park, in the heart of iHeartLand, a premiere entertainment venue in Fortnite Creative since 2022 that has hosted over 50 music and podcast events.
