The 100-Episode Podcast Will Take an In-Depth Look Into The Lives Of 100 Diverse Women Who Have Shaped The Present and Are Designing The Future

NEW YORK – August 18, 2020 – The Seneca Women Podcast Network, iHeartRadio and P&G today announced the premiere of “Seneca’s 100 Women to Hear,” an original 100-episode podcast spotlighting women who have positively impacted and created change across all sectors of society. The series launched today with an episode spotlighting abolitionist and women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth and will be available on the iHeartRadio app and everywhere podcasts are heard. New episodes will drop over nine consecutive days, from August 18 to August 26 on Women’s Equality Day, and then move to twice weekly starting in September. “Seneca’s 100 Women to Hear” will feature the voices and words of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright; Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex; Grameen America CEO Andrea Jung; soccer legend Abby Wambach; All in Together Co-Founder Lauren Leader; spoken word poet and podcaster Amena Brown; media producer, author and speaker Austin Channing Brown; and other leading women in business, entertainment, STEM, law, philanthropy, sports, the arts and public service. “Seneca’s 100 Women to Hear” is sponsored by P&G, a founding partner of the Seneca Women Podcast Network. Listen to the official trailer here.

August 18 marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which guaranteed American women the right to vote, although it would take another 45 years for all women to have full access to voting through the Voting Rights Act of 1965. “Seneca’s 100 Women to Hear” will celebrate these critical moments in American history by focusing on 100 women who have shaped the present and who are designing our future. The podcast will be co-hosted by a trio of Seneca Women leaders: Co-Founder Kim Azzarelli; Co-Founder Ambassador Melanne Verveer, the first U.S. Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues; and Commissioner Sharon Bowen, the first African-American to be appointed as Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

“Women’s voices throughout history have often gone unheard. That is why we launched the Seneca Women Podcast Network earlier this year and why we are thrilled today to announce this new ground-breaking series that will amplify the voices of 100 diverse women,” said Kim Azzarelli, Co-Founder of Seneca Women. “There has never been a more important time to hear women’s voices as we face multiple crises and have the opportunity to design a more inclusive future.”

Episodes will include conversations, groundbreaking speeches as well as interviews with historians and experts. For the premiere podcast, Azzarelli speaks with Dr. Daina Ramey Berry, an award-winning historian and professor, who shares important insights about Sojourner Truth. The second episode features a keynote address by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, during the Girl Up 2020 Leadership Summit.

“We’ve been thrilled by our partnership with Seneca Women and the stories that we are able to tell together,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “The ratification of the 19th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were important moments in our history, and we knew that we had to honor them in a special way. ‘Seneca’s 100 Women to Hear’ does a fantastic job sharing the accomplishments of these remarkable women and amplifying their voices for podcast audiences. Listeners from across the world will be able to draw from the experiences of these history makers.”

“Our world is shaped by the voices we listen to, the leaders we pay attention to and the ideas we choose to embrace,” said Marc Pritchard, P&G Chief Brand Officer. “We’re proud to support ‘Seneca’s 100 Women to Hear’ series which brings us powerful insights and inspiration from the diverse life experiences of 100 amazing women. It’s time to listen to more voices, especially the voices of women, to create a more equal, just and better world.”

In March, during Women’s History Month, the Seneca Women Podcast Network and iHeartMedia announced the launch of a new multi-year partnership to co-produce and distribute a slate of high-quality, women-focused podcasts in the areas of women in business, leadership, current events, health and more, providing inspiring, purpose-driven and actionable content from a diverse range of women’s voices. As part of the partnership, new and existing podcasts produced by Seneca Women—joined the iHeartPodcast Network. Currently, Seneca Women and iHeartMedia co-produce the hit podcast series “Seneca’s Here’s Something Good,” “Made by Women” and “Conversations on Power and Purpose.”

The Seneca Women Podcast Network builds on Seneca Women’s thought leadership and its founders’ decades of experience in advancing women around the globe. “Shonda Rhimes is an absolute creative powerhouse and developing these first few shows together has indicated what a strong partnership iHeartMedia and Shondaland have formed with Shondaland Audio,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “The breadth and depth of content that’s in progress as part of this partnership is unparalleled, and we’re thrilled to work beside the Shondaland team to bring Shonda’s unique storytelling magic to podcast listeners everywhere.”

Rhimes will oversee development of the Shondaland Audio slate with Chief Design and Digital Media Officer, Sandie Bailey, who will manage day-to-day operations as the company introduces incredible talent and stories to hundreds of millions of podcast listeners across the country.

“Podcasts allow for innovative and intimate storytelling and that’s exactly what this slate offers: deeply human stories through a range of genres and formats aimed to engage the varied and ever- growing podcast listenership,” said Bailey. “iHeartMedia has been an incredible partner in forming Shondaland Audio, and I’m thrilled that audiences will soon hear more from our collaboration with this new offering of shows.”

Progressive clients including T-Mobile and Unilever have signed on as brand partners of the upcoming slate of podcasts within the exclusive GroupM sponsorship.

The iHeartPodcast Network Unveils New Scripted Podcast, “There Be Monsters,” Starring John Boyega and Darren Criss

iHeartRadio, FlynnPictureCo., Psychopia Pictures and UpperRoom Productions break new ground to produce the original narrative sci-fi thriller podcast amid the pandemic, pushing the envelope in creative audio content production

NEW YORK – August 3, 2020 – iHeartRadio, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally, FlynnPictureCo., Psychopia Pictures and UpperRoom Productions today announced “There Be Monsters,” an original ten-part narrative sci-fi thriller podcast starring John Boyega (Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, Detroit) and Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG award winner Darren Criss (American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace, Hollywood, Royalties). “There Be Monsters,” which is produced by Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo., Dan Bush of Psychopia Pictures and John Boyega of UpperRoom Productions, will be available later this year on the iHeartPodcast Network.

In this new scripted thriller, Boyega plays Jack Locke, the mysterious hero with a vendetta who infiltrates a Silicon Valley body-hacking startup run by an enigmatic CEO Max Fuller, played by Criss, whose highly secretive creations promise to enhance human biology in incredible ways - but every drug has a side effect.

iHeartRadio, FlynnPictureCo., Psychopia Pictures and UpperRoom Productions began developing “There Be Monsters” in November 2019 as part of an expanding slate of immersive “PodFiction” (PodFi) audio dramas. As the creative team was getting ready to fly to London, Atlanta and LA to record the actors in early 2020, the pandemic hit and they were shut down. Despite the challenges of executing a scripted fictional podcast thriller with a full cast of actors remotely, the creative team was eager to move forward and broke new ground in podcast production in June 2020. The podcast creators and the iHeart team created a completely remote technological process and each cast member was sent a “Studio in a Box,” which included important materials from a professional studio microphone to tutorial videos. These materials enabled the cast to record studio quality “scripted” audio from the safety of their own homes, while still performing together as they connected virtually via teleconference across multiple continents and time zones. The director, producers and actors would connect virtually daily for six hours to record – and over the course of two weeks the production captured over four hundred pages of material with twenty different actors.

“The process to develop this scripted show and the ability to capture the connection, emotions and overall dynamic between the cast members while recording remotely, from across the globe, was unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “It’s an unbelievable feat, and I’m so impressed with Beau Flynn, Psychopia Pictures and UpperRoom Productions for rising to the occasion to create such a spectacular podcast.”

John Boyega was the first to attach and is on-board as a producer via his UpperRoom Productions. “Getting to explore this format of storytelling whilst also adjusting to new methods of recording with the cast members made it an exciting process,” said Boyega. “I’m thrilled it all came together and hope audiences are just as drawn in as I was to this sci-fi thriller series.”

The PodFi also stars Marley Shelton (Rampage, “Rise”), Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain Marvel) and Tony Award nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Fela!, Patti Cake$, Luke Cage).

The series was created and directed by Dan Bush (The Vault, The Signal), who co-wrote along with tyro-writer Nicholas Tecosky.

“’There Be Monsters’ is a psychological thriller that chronicles the rise of humankind 2.0, and the disruptions to society that come with it,” said Bush. “We chose to format this story as a scripted podcast because it is an immersive, storytelling playground, and I am beyond excited to partner with this powerhouse team and talent to bring this singular show to life.”

“From the start, our goal for “There Be Monsters,” our first PodFiction series, has always been to break down traditional storytelling barriers and create a completely unique and immersive narrative audio experience that takes listeners beyond conventional podcasting,” said Flynn. “When the pandemic hit this year and the world collectively turned to storytellers and artists to help get through this challenging time, we knew we had to find a way to keep production on track and deliver this story. We couldn’t have conceived of better partners than iHeartRadio, Dan Bush and our exemplary cast and crew to step into the unknown with. What we were able to achieve together despite endless challenges and limitations is truly the first of its kind, and we can’t wait to share this incredible story and unique experience with the world.”

FlynnPictureCo.’s Scott Sheldon and Shelby Thomas will also serve as producers.

FlynnPictureCo. is currently in post-production on Disney’s Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, releasing July 30, 2021. Fresh on the heels of the latest Star Wars trilogy, Boyega via his UpperRoom Productions recently inked a multiyear producing deal with Netflix with a specific focus on non-English language films from West and East Africa.

“There Be Monsters” production just wrapped and is now in post production. The PodFiction series will be distributed by the iHeartPodcast Network which is home to more than 750 original podcasts with over 215 million downloads each month. iHeartRadio Original Podcasts span every category from business, sports, spirituality and technology to entertainment, family, comedy and true crime – and everything in between – making iHeartRadio the largest publisher of podcast content in the world.

John Boyega is repped by Identity Agency Company and Sloane Offer, Weber & Dern.. CAA and Ricky Rollins of Hyphenate Creative Management rep Criss, and his attorney is Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman. iHeartMedia was assisted and represented by Oren Rosenbaum of UTA during the deal.

Join them on their obsessive quest through the highs and the lows of the healing world where they will test products and practices, consult healers and experts, and ask the ultimate question: is it truly wellness they’re after...or just the thrill of the chase? “POOG with Kate Berlant and Jacqueline Novak” will debut this fall. Jacqueline Novak is a comedian whose Off-Broadway, one-woman stand-up show, “Get on Your Knees” is a New York Times Critic’s Pick. BIN: Black Information Network Launches Today As The First-Of-Its-Kind 24/7 National And Local All News Audio Service For The Black Community

Founding Partners Include Bank of America, CVS Health, GEICO, Lowe’s, McDonald’s USA, Sony, 23andMe and Verizon

BIN Will Be Distributed Nationally Through the iHeartRadio App; Accessible via Multiple Connected Platforms; and Available Locally Over Dedicated All-News AM/FM Broadcast Stations, As Well As Providing the News Service for iHeartMedia’s 91 Hip Hop, R&B and Gospel Music Stations Across the Country.

Tony Coles Named President of BIN: Black Information Network

NEW YORK, N.Y. – June 30, 2020 – Today marks the launch of BIN: Black Information Network, the first and only 24/7 national and local all news audio service dedicated to providing an objective, accurate and trusted source of continual news coverage with a Black voice and perspective.  BIN is focused on service to the Black community and providing an information window for those outside the community to help foster communication, accountability and a deeper understanding.

BIN will leverage the resources, assets and financial support of iHeartMedia, and fills the void for a 24/7 well-distributed all-news audio service for the Black community. A study of Black listeners found that 86% believe a service like BIN is necessary and are likely to use it as an important news source, and 83% think BIN provides a key service and important information they can’t get on radio or TV today.  The study also shows that the BIN concept is equally strong among both the 18-34 year old and 35-54 year old segments of the Black community.

Instead of traditional ad supported media, BIN is enabled by the support of National Founding Partners who share and support the mission of BIN: Black Information Network.  These partners are Bank of America, CVS Health, GEICO, Lowe’s, McDonald’s USA, Sony, 23andMe and Verizon.

BIN will be distributed nationally through the iHeartRadio app and accessible via mobile, smart speakers, smart TVs and other connected platforms, and on dedicated all-news local AM/FM broadcast radio stations providing local news, weather traffic and sports in addition to national news -- all focused on the Black community and from the Black perspective -- in markets including Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Columbus, GA, Detroit, Greenville, Macon, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Norfolk, Riverside, San Francisco and Seattle, with additional local markets being added over the next 60 days.

BIN will also provide the news service for iHeartMedia’s 91 Hip Hop, R&B and Gospel stations across the country, including Power 105.1 in New York, Real 92.3 in Los Angeles, WDAS and Power 99 in Philadelphia, WGCI and WVAZ in Chicago, WJLB in Detroit, The Beat in Houston, The Beat in Miami, WQUE in New Orleans, KMEL in San Francisco and more.

BIN will be a standalone business unit within iHeartMedia, and its executives and talent will reflect the community they serve. The business will be enabled and supported by the full resources of iHeartMedia, including shared use of technology; data and insights; marketing; digital services; monetization; and corporate resources, including Legal, HR and Finance.

Because iHeartMedia’s broadcast assets alone currently reach 93% of Black Americans – more than any other media outlet, including local and national TV -- BIN’s news service will gain immediate brand awareness and audience credibility through respected and successful Black audience-targeted music stations.  BIN will also be amplified through iHeartMedia’s 200 million-plus social footprint.

iHeartMedia has a unique news infrastructure that can be utilized by BIN to provide support as needed.  iHeartMedia has more news reporters located in more places than any other audio news organization, and each year its local news operations are the recipients of some of the most prestigious awards in broadcasting. In addition to its local news operations, iHeartMedia’s 24/7 News Source newswire service provides text, audio and breaking news to over 1,000 stations in the United States and Canada.

BIN’s unique partner supported business model is tailored to its mission of providing comprehensive, accurate and trusted information and news. The national Founding Partners of BIN: Black Information Network will support building this new platform for Black journalism and trusted news, and this partnership support will enable BIN’s focus to be on providing a reliable, responsible and responsive news service to the Black community without the daily pressure of ratings.

Founding Partners will be able to deliver important messages to BIN’s audiences and serve as a platform for philanthropic and community outreach to build brand connection and support the Black community, as well as use it for advertising messages as needed.

Tony Coles will be President of BIN: Black Information Network.  Coles, who also serves as Division President of the iHeartMedia Markets Group, has more than 35 years’ experience in the radio industry, from on-air to programming and management, with a strong record of success and team-building.  He began his career in Ft. Wayne, IN, as a programmer and in Zanesville, OH as an on-air personality, and has since served as National Hot AC Brand Manager; Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Chicago; and most recently as Executive Vice President of Programming for the company’s West Region.  As Division President, Coles oversees the complete P&L for 21 iHeart markets across America.

Tanita Myers will be Director of News Operations for BIN:  Black Information Network.  Myers is a seasoned network and local Producer, Broadcaster and News Anchor with 15 years’ experience at Reach Media. She was formerly Director of Operations for The Tom Joyner Morning Show; Executive Producer of Rickey Smiley Morning Show; and a reporter in News, Traffic and Weather for various major market stations.

BIN: Black Information Network will also have an Advisory Board consisting of leaders of the community from both inside the company and externally who will bring their unique and important perspectives as an ongoing resource to the business.

In addition, Clear Channel Outdoor Americas (CCOA) will be a national marketing partner.

“BIN: Black Information Network will fill a void by providing continual news and objective information with full focus on the Black community,” said Coles. “We began developing our 24/7 Black news source last year, and events of the last few weeks, especially the senseless and tragic death of George Floyd, highlighted the need for this network. Now is the time for our voice to be heard, and I could not be more proud of our work and the team we are assembling at BIN.”

“We are pleased and proud to support the launch of BIN: Black Information Network by contributing resources that will have the greatest impact – our reach, our multiple platforms, our technology infrastructure and our broad, in-depth relationships with consumers,” said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia.  “The commitment to service, and the immediate need we saw for a news and information destination for the Black community, accelerated the launch of BIN: Black Information Network to serve this community in an important new way.  We are honored to be joined by some of the most important companies in the world that are also committed to this mission.”

Selections of BIN’s broadcast radio content will also be distributed every day as podcasts across iHeartRadio’s podcast network, now the largest in the world. A selection of iHeartRadio’s Black culture podcasts will also be distributed and amplified on BIN’s broadcast radio programming, and a new daily BIN podcast will launch shortly, providing 10-20 minutes of on-demand daily news and culture analysis uniquely for the Black community.

BIN is actively hiring for various positions.  For information on these positions, candidates can visit www.iHeartMediaCareers.com.  For more information about BIN: Black Information Network, please visit www.BINNews.com.
