iHeartMedia Marks One Year Anniversary of The Launch of iHeartRadio Earth with New Sustainability Initiatives in Partnership with National Environmental Education Foundation, Big Green, The Ad Council, U.S. Forest Service and Others

With Over $5M Invested, iHeartRadio Earth Continues to Offer Simple Actions That Positively Impact the Planet and Improve Listener’s Daily Lives

To Celebrate Earth Day 2021, iHeart Encourages One Million People To Grow Their Own Produce As Part Of the Million Gardens Movement

New York – April 22, 2021 – iHeartMedia, the number one audio company in the United States, today celebrated the one year anniversary of the launch of iHeartRadio Earth, the company’s sustainability initiative designed to inspire iHeart’s millions of listeners to take action to positively impact the environment. Since the program’s inception on Earth Day in 2020, the company has committed nearly $5M worth of media and has run thousands of PSAs highlighting useful tips and information that promote insights about environmentally conscious actions and behavior while also helping consumers save money while protecting the planet.

The PSAs developed in partnership with the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), the nation’s leading organization in lifelong environmental learning, were continually updated and aired throughout the year to take into consideration the evolving impact of the pandemic as well as seasonal changes, and covered topics ranging from energy efficiency, optimal home heating, car mileage and efficiency to recycling and sustainable shopping. All new PSAs were released this week for Earth Day and are focused on cooking and eating sustainably, conserving water, reducing energy while working from home and more. Additionally, iHeartRadio Earth provides listeners with information about virtual ways to explore the outdoors, including free guided tours of national parks, online workshops and more.

To celebrate Earth Day 2021, iHeart is expanding its partnership with Big Green, a national nonprofit dedicated to creating healthy places where kids can learn and grow, in support of the Million Gardens Movement, a national effort in partnership with Modern Farmer to encourage to encourage one million people to grow their own produce. The goal of the campaign is to give all people the opportunity to grow their own food, whether on a windowsill or in a backyard, and to create a healthier, happier, more sustainable world. Beginning April 19 through May 3, iHeartMedia stations will air PSAs voiced by Grammy Award-winning musician and actress Eve championing the power of homegrown food and encouraging listener participation to plant a garden or to make a donation. All the PSAs will drive listeners to MillionGardensMovement.org for fun online lessons, advice and resources to help communities and families grow more produce.

Additionally, iHeart will kick off an activation later this summer with the Ad Council and the U.S. Forest Service to encourage parents and caregivers to take their families out to the forest to experience and reconnect with nature this summer. Studies show that when kids spend time outdoors, they become healthier, have lower stress levels and develop stronger immune systems. They also become more creative, and have greater respect for themselves, other people, and the environment. The English and Spanish radio campaign will emphasize fostering a sense of connection to and belonging in nature among families, with emphasis on reaching Black and Hispanic families. The radio spots will connect parents and caregivers to nearby forests, parks and trails through an interactive map at DiscoverTheForest.org or DescubreElBosque.org.

"We are so pleased to continue our partnership with iHeartRadio," said Meri-Margaret Deoudes, CEO and President of NEEF. "I'm confident that the small, but powerful, actions we've created for iHeartEarth coupled with the incredible reach of iHeartRadio, has helped listeners across the U.S. incorporate sustainability into their daily lives."

BIN: Black Information Network And The Ad Council Team Up With BIN Founding Partners Bank Of America, CVS Health, Lowe’s, McDonald’s USA, Sony, 23andme And Verizon For “It’s Up To You” Vaccine Education Week

The Week Will Feature A Series Of Interviews With Thought Leaders And Trusted Community Voices To Help Educate Consumers About COVID-19 Vaccines; All Advertising On BIN During “It’s Up To You” Vaccine Education Week Will Be Donated By The Founding Partner Brands To Support The Ad Council and COVID Collaborative Campaign

iHeartMedia Will Also Launch A Series Of More Than 20 English And Spanish Audio PSAs Across Its 860 Broadcast Radio Stations Nationwide To Support The “It’s Up To You” Campaign To Reach As Many Consumers As Possible, Especially Those Hit Hardest By The Pandemic

NEW YORK, N.Y. – February 25, 2021 – BIN: Black Information Network, the first and only 24/7 national and local all news audio service dedicated to providing an objective, accurate and trusted source of continual news coverage with a Black voice and perspective, announced today that it has joined with the Ad Council and COVID Collaborative to help kick off their “It’s Up To You” COVID-19 vaccine education initiative.

Despite the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color there are extremely high rates of vaccine hesitancy among these communities, rooted in a deep history of health inequities, mistrust and skepticism. To reach its audiences with messages that will resonate, BIN has adapted the Ad Council’s “It’s Up To You” COVID-19 vaccine education campaign and created a week-long schedule of programming designed to reaffirm the legitimacy of having questions about the vaccines, while at the same time answering questions and addressing concerns their audiences may have.

“Based on research, the Black community is the least likely group to be receptive to taking a COVID-19 vaccine,” said Tony Coles, President of BIN: Black Information Network. “Our goal is to present the most accurate news and information to help curb the future impact of COVID-19 on the communities we serve, by both answering questions around vaccination and providing resources for the public to get informed.”

BIN was founded on an innovative business model: instead of being supported by traditional advertising, BIN is enabled by a group of well-known brands as Founding Partners who provide long-term support to allow BIN to focus solely on its mission of building an important platform for Black journalism and trusted news. As a result of this innovative and unique advertising model, BIN has been able to bring together some of its Founding Partners including Bank Of America, CVS Health, Lowe’s, McDonald’s USA, Sony, 23andMe and Verizon, to contribute a week of advertising on BIN, using the platform to spark meaningful conversation fueled by trusted news and information. Collectively these leading consumer brands will donate over 1,300 hours of continuous media to spark a deeper conversation around the COVID-19 vaccine and address specific concerns within the Black community.

"Combining the collective power of BIN and the Ad Council will be one of the most effective partnerships to get the right information about the COVID-19 vaccine to the Black community," said Diego Scotti, CMO, Verizon. "With Verizon being a partner of both organizations, it is a proud moment to see the impact that can be made when the industry takes action together."

“As a Founding Partner of the Black Information Network and a member of the Ad Council Coalition, we recognize the opportunity to help address critical communication efforts around the importance of this vaccine,” said Meredith Verdone, Chief Marketing Officer of Bank of America. “This initiative will accelerate the impact of the Ad Council’s campaign within communities that continue to be disproportionally impacted by the coronavirus.”

“CVS’ partnership with BIN allows us to have an ongoing channel to reach Black consumers every day with important and timely COVID-19 and vaccine information,” said Norm de Greve, Chief Marketing Officer of CVS. “We were thrilled to see so many of the BIN partner brands band together with the network and the Ad Council to donate their airtime to help ensure these critical messages get heard in the local communities where they are most needed.”

“We are proud to partner with our franchisees to turn over our advertising time to BIN and the Ad Council to educate the community about COVID-19 vaccinations,” said Morgan Flatley, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s USA. “At McDonald’s, being a good neighbor is one of our core values, and we hope by using our resources as a BIN founding partner, we can help bring the Black community one step closer to overcoming this pandemic.”

“As a brand grounded in science and research, we are proud to support the Black Information Network and The Ad Council’s campaign to deliver trusted, balanced information around the data behind the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Tracy Keim, Vice President, Consumer Marketing and Brand, 23andMe. “Knowledge is power, and the campaign message “It’s Up To You” highlights the importance of being armed with the critical information necessary to make an informed health decision today and in the future.”

Beginning today through next week, BIN’s “It’s Up To You” Vaccine Education Week will feature hundreds of custom audio PSAs that bring to life the moments that we have all been missing and encourage listeners to get the facts so that they can make an informed decision about the COVID-19 vaccines; local news updates that provide specific details around local vaccination requirements and availability; interviews with medical experts around the safety and science behind the vaccines; hourly news coverage providing the most up-to-date information around the vaccine rollout; and a Sunday morning public affairs show dedicated to an open discussion about the vaccines and mistrust within the Black community.

Additionally, iHeartMedia today released a series of over 20 English and Spanish custom audio spots across its more than 860 broadcast radio stations nationwide as an extension of the Ad Council and COVID Collaborative “It’s Up To You” campaign that will be made available for other audio companies to use across their platforms. Through the power of audio, the all-new PSAs vividly bring to life the everyday moments we hope to get back to and encourage the public to get the facts to make an informed decision about the COVID-19 vaccines. From family gatherings to church worship, dinner with friends, baseball games and celebrations, the PSAs remind listeners of their own personal stakes in the fight against COVID-19 and the importance of making an informed decision about getting vaccinated.

The spots will run across all iHeartMedia radio stations beginning today and drive listeners to GetVaccineAnswers.org (DeTiDepende.org in Spanish), a website developed by the Ad Council in partnership with COVID Collaborative, which provides the latest information about COVID-19 vaccines, with the ultimate goal of helping the public feel confident and prepared to get vaccinated once they are able to.

“The work that BIN is doing is critical to ensuring millions of people are getting the information they need to make informed decisions about the COVID-19 vaccines – especially those hit hardest by the pandemic where we are seeing the highest rates of hesitancy,” said Lisa Sherman, President and CEO of the Ad Council. “We are honored to partner with iHeartMedia, BIN and their incredible collaborators on this crucial week of action that will help educate audiences, inspire confidence in the vaccines and turn the tide of the pandemic.”

Washington, D.C. – January 19, 2021 – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, in partnership with the AmerisourceBergen Foundation and iHeartMedia, today launched Sharing Solutions: A Virtual Nationwide Tour to drive business-led solutions to the opioid epidemic as more than 40 states report increases in opioid-related mortality amid COVID-19. As part of the campaign, the Foundation and its partners will convene 50 virtual events in 50 states to showcase innovative workforce solutions and support employers as they tackle growing substance misuse in their communities and in the post-COVID workplace.

“Today, the fight against the opioid epidemic collides with our battle against COVID-19, exacerbating the devastation already felt by communities across the nation,” said Carolyn Cawley, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “By launching this virtual national tour and tapping into the reach and expertise of our partner iHeartMedia, we hope to arm employers – and communities in every corner of the country – with the right tools and resources so they are prepared and empowered to address the double impact of COVID-19 and a resurgent opioid crisis.”

Kicking off in Louisiana on January 19, the virtual nationwide tour will feature townhall-style conversations with leading health experts including 20th U.S. Surgeon General VADM Jerome Adams. Leidos CEO Roger Krone and Nationwide Foundation President Chad Jester will also be featured in each program, followed by a live panel of local guests. Moderating these livestreamed events will be key public figures such as Randy Grimes, former NFL Player in long-term recovery and Founder of Pro Athletes in Recovery. Grimes will moderate the Florida program on February 11, with other moderators to include musical artists and iHeartMedia personalities. All events will be open to public at no charge to help reduce stigma and heighten dialogue among impacted communities.

“As a co-founder of the National Opioid Action Coalition, iHeart has been committed to combating the opioid crisis affecting communities across America,” said Alexandra Cameron, vice president of strategic partnerships & government initiatives for iHeartMedia. “By collaborating closely with the U.S. Chamber Foundation, we are bringing public and private sectors together in this mission, and including pop culture influencers who can bring attention to this important issue.”

“The combined health and economic crisis linked to the coronavirus creates major challenges for employers and employees already struggling with the opioid epidemic,” said Gina Clark, president of the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. “We know this is a problem that requires localized solutions, and we’re proud to work with the U.S. Chamber Foundation and its new partners this year as they bring renewed attention to this important issue, in addition to the deep expertise and network needed to make a real impact at the local level.”

The Sharing Solutions initiative was launched in March 2019 with the support of the AmerisourceBergen Foundation as an online resource hub to bring together expertise from multiple sectors, and aggregate workforce resources and case studies in an accessible way to help employers and employees cultivate a drug-free workplace. The 2019 initiative also featured a 10-city tour in communities hard hit by the epidemic, including Abingdon, VA; Lexington, KY; and Columbus, OH; among others.

iHeartMedia Announces The iHeartRadio Communities Spotlight Media Grant Program

$1 Million In Media To Be Granted To Organizations Working To Positively Impact Social And Racial Justice

UNCF Named The First Grant Recipient

New York – December 1, 2020 – iHeartMedia, the number one audio company in America, today announced the launch of iHeartRadio Communities Spotlight Media Grant Program, an all-new initiative to support organizations that are making a positive impact within the communities iHeart serves and to use iHeart’s multi-platform media network to deliver messaging that is timely, relevant and hyper-targeted to most effectively serve impacted communities.

The inaugural Spotlight Grants will provide a nationwide platform for Black-focused community organizations to inspire, educate and empower listeners to take a stand against systemic racism and promote social justice; celebrate Black excellence, achievement and culture; help members of the Black community express themselves and address the unique needs of their communities; and invest in educational programs and individuals that are inspiring the next generation of Black journalists and leaders.

To mark the launch of the grant program, long-time partner UNCF, an organization that helps fund 37 private historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), has been named the first partner and will receive a minimum media grant of $350,000 to be used through the end of the year.

The all-new PSA will begin airing today through the end of the year across all iHeartMedia radio stations and will bring attention to the many social, financial, educational and mental health challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has caused to communities of color and the threat to America’s progress for a more equitable society. UNCF is asking listeners to donate $10 online at UNCF.org/donate to help HBCU students who had to withdraw from school because of COVID-19 challenges get back to college in the spring. Additionally, iHeart will again host UNCF President and CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax as a guest on the iHeartRadio Communities public affairs show in the coming weeks.

“iHeart strongly believes in the mission of UNCF and the importance of investing in an equitable and just society and we will continue to work with them into the future,” said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia. “The iHeartRadio Communities Spotlight Media Grant Program is an opportunity at a critical moment in history to share the work and messages of organizations like UNCF and bring them to the largest possible audience.”

“We thank iHeart for this investment in a vital component of better futures for us all—our institutions and students,” said Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO, UNCF. “Getting our message out and making people aware of how we work tirelessly to support HBCUs and the Black community is vital. Partners like iHeart make our work at UNCF possible, and we are grateful for this support. As UNCF enters its 76th year, our mission is critical now, more than ever, as we work to ensure that students get back to college and that their futures – as leaders, professionals, and responders to the next pandemic – are secured.”

Most recently, iHeart has worked closely with leading civil right organizations including the NAACP and National Urban League to invest in ensuring Black voter participation in the 2020 presidential election and to advocate for the importance of minority education and college readiness as well as explore the deep cultural influence of HBCUs. In addition to the media grant, iHeart will continue to work with UNCF and other organizations to ensure their messages and missions are heard beyond these campaigns.

Future iHeartRadio Communities Spotlight Media Grant PSAs will address individual issue areas ranging from minority education to mental health to food insecurity and the many long-term impacts of COVID-19 on our country, and will spotlight critical issues facing all of our listeners and provide a platform to explore the issues that matter most to them both locally and nationally.

In 2019, iHeart contributed over $355 million in media to thousands of national and local organizations and the iHeartRadio Communities Spotlight Media Grant Program is an extension of that commitment. The program is designed to explore the many facets of timely issues like social justice and racism facing our country and offer multiple outlets for action.

NEW YORK – June 17, 2020 – iHeartMedia and Ally today announced “iHeartRadio Concerts For The Community Presented By Ally” – a virtual concert series benefitting United Way, the worldwide organization that fights for health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community, as well as Musicians On Call, the nation’s leading provider of live music in hospitals, serving individuals in facilities ranging from children’s hospitals to adult facilities, VA hospitals and hospices. The three-part concert series will feature performances from Andy Grammer and Aloe Blacc, with more to be announced. The event will stream on iHeartRadio’s YouTube Channel, Facebook Live and Instagram Live beginning on Monday, June 22 at 8pm EST/5pm PST with Andy Grammer.

In addition to the virtual events, iHeartMedia and Ally are helping to bring the gift of music to dedicated healthcare heroes that have been staffing hospitals nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the program, Ally has committed to fund the delivery of up to 5,000 virtual eCards to frontline workers nationwide. Each card will feature an inspiring and uplifting video recorded by Musicians On Call’s volunteer musicians.  The program will encourage listeners to visit a dedicated landing page on the Musicians On Call website to send a personalized e-card and music video to doctors and nurses in their own lives.

As part of the series, each artist will surprise caregivers around the country with a virtual meet & greet and performance as a token of appreciation for their work on the frontlines.

“With the incredible sacrifices the frontline workers make every day for our safety during this pandemic, we’re committed to showing our gratitude while delivering a musical break to their stressful days,” said Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin. “We’ve witnessed time and again the healing power of music and we are proud to partner with iHeartMedia and Ally to share some joy with the people who need it the most right now. With their support we will be able to bring smiles to the faces of thousands of healthcare workers across the country.”

In addition to supporting United Way Worldwide through Concerts for the Community, Ally is supporting seven local United Way COVID-19 Relief Funds across the country.  Through its partnership with iHeartMedia, Ally will help fund United Way Worldwide’s newly launched Invisible Problems campaign, to help identify and respond to unseen problems in communities that may be contributing to racial and economic inequalities. Listeners will be invited to visit unitedway.ideascale.com to share an unseen problem facing their family, neighborhood or community.

“United Way is addressing many significant, often ‘unseen’ problems emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, such as food insecurity, access to medical care, and financial support. Many of our communities were already in crisis pre-COVID-19 and now find themselves in deeper crises as new problems surface in this rapidly changing environment. Increased domestic violence, evictions, and loss of support groups are some of the problems emerging in the wake of COVID-19,” said Suzanne McCormick, U.S. President, United Way Worldwide. “Support from Ally and iHeartMedia will help United Way begin to address these unseen issues facing communities across the country.”

“While the country faces multiple crises, many are looking for ways to help those fighting the pandemic and become part of the solution to address racial justice and equity issues,” said Andrea Brimmer, chief marketing and public relations officer at Ally. “Ally believes that music not only has the power to comfort us, but also reinforces our connection to each other, our families, and our communities. We hope these concerts bring people together to help frontline workers and generate much needed attention to hidden issues.”

iHeartMedia & ICX Media Come Together in Support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to Form the MediaSavingLives Alliance

Global Media, Technology and Entertainment Leaders Pledge Over 1 Billion Impressions to Help Slow the Spread Of COVID-19 among Generation Z and Millennials*

Anne-Marie, Backstreet Boys, Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Luke Combs, Mariah Carey, Papa Roach, Sam Smith, Tim McGraw, Tori Kelly and More Lend Their Support To “Don’t Stop” PSA Campaign

New York (May 5, 2020) – Today, MediaSavingLives, an alliance of leading global media, technology and entertainment companies, announced their support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) efforts to help younger Americans embrace their role in slowing and stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Formed in mid-March and organized in conjunction with iHeartMedia, the number one audio company in the United States, and ICX Media, a leader in audience, content intelligence and analytics, the MediaSavingLives Alliance is committed to supporting the public throughout the pandemic and beyond and will evolve its youth-targeted messaging focused on staying home, testing and eventually vaccination. Other Founding Alliance member companies include ZypMedia, Rubicon Project /Telaria, SpotX, Yieldmo, OUTFRONT Media, GroundTruth, Division-D and Zeta Global.

MediaSavingLives adopts a data-driven approach to identifying target audiences and messaging that will yield the greatest public impact. Research shows that Millennials are more likely to feel invincible, leading them to be less likely to follow the CDC’s recommendations about how to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Alliance’s first public service campaign, “Don’t Stop,” which specifically aims to reach Generation-Z and Millennials, was released today. The radio, outdoor, digital and social creative encourages resilience, connection and social creativity in adopting self-isolation practices during the pandemic. The compelling ads feature ordinary people and celebrities including Anne-Marie, Backstreet Boys, Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Luke Combs, Mariah Carey, Papa Roach, Sam Smith, Tim McGraw, Tori Kelly and more.

The campaign demonstrates how people are adapting to their new environments amid varying state-mandated COVID-19 restrictions, and provides hope and inspiration to stay at home and stop the spread. The goal is to empower young adults to focus on helping their communities by contributing their talents and supporting those they love during the crisis.

“Don’t Stop,” which was created and donated by Brunet-García, a social impact marketing agency, will be distributed through a wide variety of channels, including digital, mobile, pre-roll video, connected and local television, broadcast radio and out-of-home digital assets.

All future Alliance messaging will be developed in response to the current state of the pandemic and will take into consideration data trends and private and public feedback from government and health officials. Sensis, an integrated cross-cultural marketing agency will provide strategic direction by combining data intelligence with relevant cultural insights.

The coalition aims to deliver one billion media impressions over the next three months on behalf of federal, state and county health initiatives. The creative displayed on the various platforms will drive the audience to coronavirus.gov or a specific state or county website endorsed by the local health departments.

“We are grateful for all of the efforts of our partners in the MediaSavingLives Alliance,” said Serge Matta, CEO of ICX Media. “I am proud that, together, we can inspire hard-to-reach and at-risk young adults to make impactful daily choices and to acknowledge that small moments of empowerment and resourcefulness can save lives.”

“MediaSavingLives is passionate and committed to support our health experts, government officials and essential workers in our collective efforts to protect our global citizens from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Greg Ashlock, President, iHeartMedia – Markets Group. “We are grateful for the sacrifices so many citizens are making to support public safety, and to those who are self-isolating, we say – Don’t Stop!”
