iHeartMedia Announces New iHeartRadio Offerings Spanning Virtual Assistants, Chatbots, Wearables, Auto and More at CES 2018

Integrations include Facebook Messenger, Roku, Bixby, General Motors, Ford, Jibo and Garmin

LAS VEGAS – January 8, 2018 – iHeartMedia today announced multiple new integrations for iHeartRadio, the company’s free all-in-one digital music, podcasting and live streaming radio service, during the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Listeners will have the ability to access iHeartRadio through a bot for Facebook Messenger; Samsung’s new voice service, Bixby; Jibo, the first social robot for the home; Garmin’s new GPS running watch, the Forerunner 645 Music; and Roku users will now have access to iHeartRadio’s full feature set. Additionally, through new automotive updates with General Motors and Ford, iHeartMedia continues its commitment to providing quality audio entertainment in-car by creating an easy-to-use iHeartRadio listening experience with safety in mind.

iHeartRadio recently surpassed 110 million registered users, a milestone that it has reached faster than any other digital music service. In 2017, the company launched iHeartRadio All Access powered by Napster; became an industry leading podcast publisher; and topped 200 platform integrations, making iHeartRadio available in cars, at home, on wearables, via gaming consoles, through virtual assistants, and nearly everywhere listeners want to tune in. iHeartRadio is available in nearly all major OEMs and aftermarket products as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more. In addition, iHeartMedia can be heard in every vehicle reaching more than a quarter of a billion people monthly through its 850 local radio stations nationwide.

“In 2017, we built on iHeartRadio’s strong foundation of content access and discovery,” said Darren Davis, President of iHeartRadio and iHeartMedia Networks Group. “Consumers are taking advantage of the ease and ubiquity of virtual assistants, smart speakers, set-top boxes and other connected devices, and in doing so, they’re proving that audio is an important part of their day-to-day life. As we look ahead in 2018, we will continue to innovate blending the iHeartRadio experience seamlessly into the way listeners use the influx of these new smart devices and as always, make iHeartRadio easily available on the products and platforms they use most.”

As the leading audio company in America with a greater reach in the U.S. than any other media outlet, iHeartMedia is uniquely poised to lead the way in a new era of media consumption – one where virtual assistants, smart speakers and wearables are experiencing explosive growth. By integrating with the most innovative devices on the market, iHeartRadio enables consumers to access the music, personalities and content they love, whenever and wherever they are.

Full details on the integrations can be found below:

iHeartRadio bot for Messenger

iHeartRadio today announced the launch of its first bot, available on Facebook Messenger.  People can ask the iHeartRadio bot to hear music based on a specific genre or geographic location, and once selected iHeartRadio will serve up the perfect live radio station. Fans can also choose “iHeartRadio recommends” to hear a randomly chosen offering from one of iHeartRadio’s top ten most popular stations. iHeartRadio will also add more capabilities to the bot soon; fans will be able to ask the iHeartRadio bot to create custom radio stations based on an artist they choose and more.

iHeartRadio has a significant Facebook following, and the bot will make it easier than ever for fans of iHeartRadio to discover new songs and artists via Messenger, a platform where they already interact with friends and other brands.

Roku

Available now, Roku users will have access to all of the iHeartRadio features they love. Through a new update available to all Roku users, listeners can now subscribe and enjoy the benefits of iHeartRadio All Access including instant song playback, unlimited skips, saving and replaying songs from live radio, as well as on demand playlist playback and access to millions of artists and podcasts right from their TV.

Bixby from Samsung and Virtual Voice Assistants

iHeartRadio is now integrated with the Bixby service. Users can ask Bixby to play specific Live and iHeartRadio Original radio stations, create a Custom Artist station, and even set a sleep timer for Bixby to stop playing iHeartRadio after a set amount of time. Additionally, users can ask Bixby to like the song that is playing or skip a song. Bixby is currently available on Samsung Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Visit the Samsung Open IOT Zone at CES to experience iHeartRadio on the Family Hub: LVCC Central Hall, Booth #15006.

The addition of Bixby to iHeartRadio’s platform lineup marks the service’s availability on all major voice-activated virtual assistants including Alexa, Cortana and Google Assistant. Recently, iHeartRadio launched a new lineup of nearly a dozen Flash Briefings for Amazon Alexa equipped devices featuring iHeartRadio’s most popular shows and personalities including On Air With Ryan Seacrest, The Brokaw Report, The Rush Minute, several NBC New Radio category briefings and more. In 2018, iHeartRadio also will continue to develop original skills for virtual assistants that will allow listeners to engage with iHeartRadio via voice and allow brand partners the opportunity to integrate with iHeartRadio in innovative new ways. Previously released skills included iHeartRadio Music Awards Voting on Google Home, iHeartRadio Music Trivia, and seasonal skills like the popular iHeartRadio “Talk to Santa Claus” skill that debuted this December for Amazon Alexa users.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and iHeartMedia Break Fundraising Record

Country Cares for St. Jude Kids annual fundraising event engaged more than two dozen stations and topped $5 million in donations

Memphis, Tennessee - December 15, 2017 – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® partner iHeartMedia mobilized 26 radio stations across the nation and collectively raised more than $5.6 million during the annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids national radiothon, December 7 – 8.

The fundraising event encouraged radio listeners to pledge $20 per month to become “Partners In Hope” with St. Jude. The event was supported across iHeartMedia markets in conjunction with The Bobby Bones Show – iHeartMedia’s nationally syndicated award-winning country morning show – and the $5.6 million raised in just two days this year marks iHeartMedia’s largest national campaign.

Also, more than 80 country artists supported the St. Jude ‘This Shirt Saves Lives’ campaign in addition to the radiothon. The social media push and on-air promotion through Country Cares radio partner stations attracted thousands of new Partners in Hope and sustaining donors in support of the life-saving research and treatment being done at St. Jude. Artist and donor social posts can be viewed at www.thisshirtsaveslives.org.

St. Jude and iHeartMedia have enjoyed a longstanding partnership for more than 30 years, generating more than $90 million in the past decade to treat St. Jude patients by relying on the power of radio and the generosity of local listeners. Like this year’s successful radiothon, many times in past years iHeartMedia stations have come together to support St. Jude patients and families who never receive a bill from St. Jude for the cost of treatment, travel, housing or food.

The Bobby Bones Show generated more than $1.7 million with the help of several artists including Lauren Alaina, Kelsea Ballerini and Cole Swindell. Additionally, throughout the year, The Bobby Bones Show supports many St. Jude programs such as the star-studded Bobby Bones & The Raging Idiots’ Million Dollar Show in January at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

“The iHeartMedia radiothon program capitalizes on the power of storytelling and iHeartMedia’s unique role as a community medium to inspire and motivate listeners to action,” said Rod Phillips, iHeartMedia SVP of Programming. “We have a rich history of supporting St. Jude – which treats so many children living in the communities in which we serve – and we look forward to many more successful fundraising events in 2018.”

“We greatly appreciate our partnership with iHeartMedia, and are truly inspired by the dedication of its on-air personalities and listeners for passionately supporting the critical cause of finding cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “It’s remarkable to see how deeply the entire country music industry has embraced the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This record-breaking year is an amazing achievement for the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids program.”

Participating iHeartMedia radio stations include: WMZQ Washington, DC; WAMZ Louisville; WGAR Cleveland; WKKT Charlotte; WBWL Boston; KTOM Salinas, CA; WSIX Nashville; KASE Austin; KWNR Las Vegas; WMIL Milwaukee; WNCB Raleigh; KTST Oklahoma City; WQIK Jacksonville; KODA Houston, among others. KEEY in Minneapolis, and San Antonio’s KAJA air this week.

About St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won’t stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. PHILADELPHIA, PA and NEW YORK, NY – November 29, 2017 – Comcast and iHeartMedia today announced a partnership that will make iHeartRadio, the free all-in-one digital music, podcasting and live streaming radio service, available on Xfinity X1, giving people a new way to enjoy more than 1,000 radio stations from across the country – directly on their TV – with custom artist radio stations, playlists, podcasts and more iHeartRadio favorites coming soon.  According to Nielsen, nearly half of all music listening (44%) happens in the home.

Beginning today and rolling out to capable X1 set-top boxes in the coming weeks, customers of both services will be able to use their voice remote to launch iHeartRadio or browse and select stations integrated throughout related sections of Xfinity On Demand.

“We are excited to team up with Comcast to bring iHeartMedia’s massive catalog of live radio stations to the highly innovate Xfinity X1 platform,” said Michele Laven, President of Strategic Partnerships Group for iHeartMedia. “We will continue to push boundaries and explore new opportunities for consumers to interact with the iHeartRadio brand. Our goal is to ensure that the music and trusted personalities our listeners love are seamlessly available whenever and wherever they are, across the products and services they use most. The new iHeartRadio X1 integration is a perfect addition to our platform offerings that we know listeners will love.”

Following the initial roll out, iHeartRadio will continue to expand the music offering available on X1, including iHeartRadio’s curated playlists, custom artist radio stations, podcasts, as well as the ability to call up a specific station or DJ directly with the voice remote.  Specifically, customers will be able to:

  • Listen to their favorite radio stations by saying “Listen to iHeartRadio” into the voice remote, or by navigating to the iHeartRadio app located in the apps section of X1. Future phases of the app will include the ability to search and access popular stations and DJs by saying voice commands like, “New York’s Z100 on iHeartRadio,” “Chicago’s 103.5 KISS FM on iHeartRadio,” or “Listen to Elvis Duran on iHeartRadio.”
  • Explore and listen to curated playlists and individual stations integrated throughout the Xfinity On Demand menu. For example, during the week of the Country Music Awards, customers might find featured country music stations within the music section of Xfinity On Demand.
  • Find and keep a list of favorites, including their hometown station, for quick access.  X1 customers can listen to all of iHeartRadio’s live radio stations without any signup, but users can also sign-in to their iHeartRadio account to access their personalized listening experience.

iHeartMedia Announces Strategic Station Exchange With Entercom Communications in Seattle, Boston, Richmond and Chattanooga Markets

New York, N.Y. – November 1, 2017 – iHeartMedia announced today a strategic station exchange with Entercom Communications (NYSE: ETM) across four U.S. markets.  Under the agreement, iHeartMedia will acquire seven radio stations from Entercom in Boston, MA and Seattle, WA and Entercom will acquire 10 stations from iHeartMedia in Richmond, VA and Chattanooga, TN.  The agreement is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.

Under the agreement, WRKO-AM, WZLX-FM, WKAF-FM and WBZ-AM in Boston and KZOK-FM, KJAQ-FM and KFNQ-AM in Seattle will join iHeartMedia, which currently operates more than 850 radio stations in 150 markets that reach over a quarter of a billion monthly listeners to its broadcast stations alone; in addition to broadcast, the company reaches audiences across digital, mobile, social and live events. These seven stations will also be available on iHeartRadio, the all-in-one streaming music and live radio service with more than 1.4 billion downloads and 100 million registered users.

Entercom will acquire WRVA-AM, WRXL-FM, WTVR-FM, WBTJ-FM, WRNL-AM and WRVQ-FM in Richmond and WKXJ-FM, WLND-FM, WRXR-FM and WUSY-FM in Chattanooga.  The deal is part of Entercom’s broader divestiture and acquisition package to facilitate the company’s pending merger with CBS Radio.

“We’re excited to add these stations to iHeartMedia across broadcast, digital, mobile, social and our spectrum of iHeartRadio-branded live events,” said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia.  “This exchange is an opportunity for us to expand our presence and further strengthen our position in two markets  – Seattle and Boston – even though we have to give up two smaller markets that have been an important part of this company.  This was a difficult decision for us, but we think we arrived at the best decision for our company, and we are pleased that we’ll continue to have a presence in the Richmond and Chattanooga markets through the iHeartRadio platform, Premiere Networks, the Total Traffic and Weather Network and the Virginia News Network.”

Pittman added, “These markets are two of the few where we did not have a full complement of stations; now we will have a full complement in Boston and a full complement of FM stations in Seattle.”

iHeartMedia To Air “Inside Psycho” Podcast Special On News/Talk Stations Leading up to Halloween

The Special Event Marks First Time A Full Podcast Will Air on Broadcast Radio

New York - October 25, 2017 – iHeartMedia will air the acclaimed podcast “Inside Psycho” as a 1-hour special adapted from Wondery’s hit podcast throughout the weekend and leading up to Halloween on select iHeartMedia News/Talk radio stations across the country, including 710 WOR New York, 850 KOA Denver, 610 WIOD Miami, 1130 WISN Milwaukee and more than 70 others. This marks the first time a made-for-podcast show will air across broadcast radio, introducing podcasts to millions of new listeners. The 1-hour special as well as the entire “Inside Psycho” podcast series is also available on iHeartRadio— iHeartMedia’s free, all-in-one digital music, podcasting and live streaming radio service.

Mark Ramsey’s much-lauded “Inside Psycho” — a detailed look behind the scenes of the making of “Psycho”— is a mix of fact and partial fact, transporting listeners closely into the making of one of the most beloved horror films of all time. The 1-hour special event explores the controversial production of “Psycho” and recounts the terrifying true story of Ed Gein, the real-life inspiration for the film’s villain Norman Bates. It contains untold (and starkly compelling) stories of the film’s major players, including Alfred Hitchcock, Anthony Perkins, and Janet Leigh.

“Wondery has a roster of very engaging podcast content and Inside Psycho is no exception,” said Chris Peterson, Senior Vice President of Podcasting for iHeartMedia. “This brand-new ‘Podcast Meets Broadcast’ special will be the first of many seasonal podcast events across iHeartMedia stations. Almost everyone has heard of the movie ‘Psycho,’ which is why the haunting behind-the-scenes accounts told during this 1-hour podcast special makes for the perfect iHeartRadio podcast-to-radio event debut this Halloween. We couldn’t be more excited to share the Inside Psycho podcast with our millions of radio listeners across the country.”

Earlier this year, Wondery’s original six-part “Inside Psycho” ‘audiographic novel’ was enjoyed by hundreds of thousands on demand. Creator Ramsey is a well-regarded media consultant who works with numerous audio, publishing, and digital brands, including iHeartMedia, Apple, CBS, Bonneville, Sirius XM, U-T San Diego, EA Sports and more.

“I’m thrilled and proud that Wondery is working with iHeartRadio to produce this historic event, the first time a podcast will air on broadcast radio,” said Hernan Lopez, CEO of Wondery.

Additionally, Wondery just released the first episodes of “Inside The Exorcist,” a sequel to “Inside Psycho”—also from Mark Ramsey and available on iHeartRadio. This seven-part uniquely-produced podcast—even more detailed and gory than its predecessor—recounts the inside story of one of the scariest and most important movies of the Twentieth Century. “ITE” debuted on the top 10 in Apple Podcasts.

iHeartRadio, iHeartMedia’s free streaming music radio service with more than 1.4 billion downloads and 100 million registered users, is dedicated to providing an all-in-one listening experience that helps users discover new podcasts alongside their favorite live radio stations, personalities and on-demand music.  With iHeartRadio, listeners can enjoy their music and podcasts across more than 100 unique device platforms including in-car, in-home, on wearables, across gaming consoles and more – making their favorite audio content available everywhere they are, on the devices they use most.
