“You’re Wrong About” takes home the highly coveted Podcast of the Year Award presented by surprise guest Dua Lipa

NEW YORK – February 4, 2022 – Last night, the fourth annual iHeartRadio Podcast Awards brought together the most influential names in podcasting to honor the most entertaining and innovative podcasts of 2021, celebrating the incredible talent and wide variety of leaders across the thriving podcasting industry. The virtual awards event was exclusively video streamed on iHeartRadio’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page and broadcast across iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio App.

Renowned actor, comedian and producer Will Ferrell, joined by his sons Mattias and Magnus Ferrell, kicked off the 2022 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards with a hilarious opening. The comical tone continued throughout the night with skits from Brian Baumgartner, host of "The Office Deep Dive.” His hilariously awkward appearances included wearing a facial mask and eating cheese puffs while presenting because, “the whole thing about podcasts is not being on camera.” Throughout the show, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers ("Las Culturistas"), and Miles Gray (“The Daily Zeitgeist”) also kept viewers laughing with original comedy skits and games such as "Name That Podcast Host.” The memorable night additionally featured a variety of appearances by award nominees, celebrity presenters, special guests and surprise appearances by Dua Lipa and Jamie Lee Curtis. Featured guests included Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, Martha Stewart, Paris Hilton, Shonda Rhimes, Bethenny Frankel, Wilmer Valderrama, Roy Wood Jr., Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, Baratunde Thurston, Holly Frey and more.

The 2022 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards event highlights include:

  • Dua Lipa’s surprise appearance to present the coveted Podcast of the Year award, a public-voted category, to "You're Wrong About.” Dua Lipa also shared with the audience the launch of her own podcast, “Dua Lipa: At Your Service.”
  • Will Ferrell kicked off the show with the help of his sons Mattias and Magnus Ferrell.
  • Shonda Rhimes named Laci Mosley, host of "Scam Goddess," as the winner of the Best Crime Podcast award. Mosley gave an emotional and heartfelt speech, stating, "As a Black woman especially, it is overwhelming to know that people hear me and care about what I have to say because that is something that is not very typical."
  • Roy Wood Jr. and Flame Monroe presented the Best Overall-Female Host to Nicole Byer. Flame Monroe also shared a good-humored conversation with Roy Wood Jr. by educating him on what a “He-She-We” is.
  • Fans, special guests and presenters played the game "If you could choose your perfect co-host, who would it be?" Participants included Paris Hilton, who picked the late Marilyn Monroe; Bethenny Frankel, who picked Charles Barkley; Baratunde Thurston, who picked Brian Williams, and a lucky fan who got to tell Martha Stewart just how amazing she is.
  • Martha Stewart teased fans with a few key details about her very own upcoming podcast.
  • Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey presented the winner of the Best Comedy Podcast to "SmartLess." The ladies waited in their driveway for the hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett to meet them in person and accept their award, but in a hilariously priceless moment, they never showed up.
  • Paris Hilton presented the winner of the Best Music Podcast to "Song Exploder," hosted/created by Hrishikesh Hirway.

The New York Times’ “1619,” NPR’s “Life Kit” and Payne Lindsey and Donald Albright Of Tenderfoot TV To Be Honored with Icon Awards at the 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards on January 17

NEW YORK – December 23, 2019 – iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally, announced today the recipients of the three Icon Awards at the 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards streaming live Friday, January 17 at 8 p.m. PT via a LiveXLive stream and on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide from the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles. The second annual event will honor the New York Times’ “1619” podcast with the Social Impact Award, NPR’s “Life Kit” podcast with the Innovator Award Presented by Zoom and Tenderfoot TV’s Payne Lindsey and Donald Albright with the Audible Audio Pioneer Award.

The iHeartRadio Podcast Icon Awards pay tribute to the creators, organizations and podcasts that have made groundbreaking contributions to podcasting’s expanding role in today’s popular culture.

“We’re thrilled to honor ‘1619,’ ‘Life Kit’ and Tenderfoot TV as this year’s iHeartRadio Podcast Icon winners,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “From history to true crime to everyday guidance, their work is as diverse as it is trailblazing, and they make it easy to understand why podcasts have become a must-listen for millions of people each and every day.”

The New York Times’ “1619” podcast, recipient of the 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Social Impact Award, is a five-episode series that is part of a major initiative by the newspaper to observe the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery and reframe the history of the United States by understanding that 1619 was the nation’s true founding. The podcast series is hosted by Nikole Hannah-Jones, an award-winning journalist who serves as a domestic correspondent for The New York Times Magazine focusing on racial injustice.

The 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Innovator Award Presented by Zoom winner, NPR’s “Life Kit,” provides listeners with practical information and guidance to help them improve their lives. Launched in December 2018, “Life Kit” is designed for search as it seeks to reach beginners and those with more knowledge on topics that include personal finance, health and wellness, and parenting. The podcast episodes are aggregated in topical playlists for deep dives. “Life Kit” is produced by NPR, which received the first-ever iHeartRadio Podcast Pioneer Award in 2019.

The 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Audible Audio Pioneer Award recipients – director/independent filmmaker, Payne Lindsey, and music industry veteran, Donald Albright – paved the way for true crime podcasts. They launched Tenderfoot TV in 2016 with their first podcast, “Up and Vanished,” which showed that an aspiring filmmaker/musician could take an unsolved murder and turn it into a compelling story and hit podcast – with the alleged killer ultimately confessing due to the podcast investigation. The award-winning podcast has received over 330 million downloads and created the blueprint for Tenderfoot TV’s other No. 1 critically acclaimed podcasts, “Atlanta Monster,” “To Live and Die in LA,” “Culpable” and “Sworn.” “To Live and Die in LA,” which received 50 million downloads in 2019, was also named Podcast of the Year by the Associated Press. iHeartRadio’s Second Annual Major Live Podcast Awards Ceremony Will Return to the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles on January 17, 2020

NEW YORK – September 30, 2019– In celebration of International Podcast Day, iHeartMedia, the No. 1 podcast publisher globally, today announced the return of the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards to the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 8 p.m. PT. The second annual live awards event, which will broadcast and stream live across iHeartMedia stations nationwide, will honor the most entertaining and innovative podcasts of 2019 and will span 30 categories, celebrating the incredible talent and wide variety of leaders across the booming podcasting industry.

Last year’s winners at the inaugural iHeartRadio Podcast Awards included Slate’s “Slow Burn” for Podcast of the Year; “Up and Vanished” for Best Crime Podcast; “The Joe Rogan Experience” for Best Comedy Podcast; Marc Smerling, host of “Crimetown” and “The RFK Tapes,” for Podcast Innovator; “Fantasy Footballers” for Best Sports Podcast; and Dax Shepard and Monica Padman of “Armchair Expert” for Breakout Podcast of the Year, among many other categories and winners. “The podcasting landscape has truly grown and is now reaching a mainstream audience,” said Anya Grundmann, Senior Vice President for Programming and Audience Development at NPR. “As a ‘Podcast Pioneer’ we are thrilled to see the range of terrific new programs out there and excited that iHeart has created such a powerful platform to showcase standout shows.”

International Podcast Day celebrates the power of podcasts, which continues to see tremendous growth into mainstream audiences with millions of new listeners. Podcast listenership in the United States alone has grown exponentially with an estimated 17 million more monthly podcast listeners in 2019 than in 2018. Today podcasts reach 90 million active listeners in America, exceeding the listenership of both satellite radio and all major streaming music services. iHeartMedia, which reaches a quarter of billion monthly listeners in the U.S. with just its broadcast radio stations and on-air personalities alone, will celebrate the best in podcasts with existing fans, while also continuing to introduce millions of new listeners to this incredible medium every single day.

“When we introduced the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards last year, we knew we wanted to celebrate the most talented podcast creators out there – the key reason that podcasting continues to grow exponentially,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “The response to last year’s awards was amazing. This is the one time of the year that all the most popular podcasters come together to celebrate the community of podcasting truly as colleagues, not competitors. The iHeartRadio Podcast Awards bring everyone into one room – the biggest hosts, producers and distributors – all committed to this amazing podcast medium and to seeing its incredible growth continue.”

Podcast fans themselves will once again decide the winner of the “Podcast of the Year” award through online and social voting across Twitter and Instagram. Nominees will include podcasts from all creators, distributors and platforms, and a panel of blue-ribbon podcast industry leaders, creatives and visionaries will determine the winner across remaining categories including entertainment, comedy, crime, news, sports, food, LGBTQ+, business and more.
