Russell Peters Wants to Talk About More than Comedy on New Podcast with Cloud10 and iHeartMedia

Comedians, hip-hop legends, actors, athletes, martial artists, DJ’s and other diverse voices from around the world join Russell Peters on his new podcast, CULTURALLY CANCELLED. Guests include everyone from Cedric the Entertainer, Lord Finesse and Luenell to Rick Fox and Michael Jai White.

Los Angeles, CA - March 23, 2021 - Though Russell Peters has been named one of Rolling Stones' 50 Best Stand-up Comics of All Time and set attendance records at arenas around the world, he’s ready to let people know that there’s more to him than comedy with the launch of his new iHeartMedia and Cloud10 Media podcast, "Culturally Cancelled." The podcast premieres on March 25 and the official trailer can be heard now on iHeartRadio and everywhere podcasts are heard.

Fans of Peters know him as an international comedy star, but fewer are aware that he has a blue belt with three stripes in Jiu Jitsu and is an ardent DJ with a big-time passion for hip-hop. So while it’s natural to expect a straight comedy podcast from one of the world’s biggest comics, Culturally Cancelled will also spotlight Peters’ other major interests; namely hip-hop, martial arts, and boxing.

Therefore, Peters will not only be interviewing star comedians like Cedric the Entertainer, but also hip-hop legends (like DITC founder Lord Finesse) and martial artists (like Spawn star Michael Jai White). But no matter the guest or topic of conversation, Peters’ signature off-the-cuff humor is guaranteed to be present in every episode. “Culturally Cancelled is a fresh take on a traditional comedy podcast,” says executive producer and Cloud10 CEO, Sim Sarna. “It allows listeners to get a glimpse of Russell Peters as a person and a friend.”

While "Culturally Cancelled" will absolutely let listeners in on another side of Russell Peters, the podcast also aims to reveal a more genuine side of his celebrity guests so that listeners can “see the person behind the star,” as Peters puts it. “It’s all about hanging out and it’s kinda like pulling back the curtain and hearing how people talk--like how I talk with my friends,” says Peters. “It’s to keep my guests not guarded. It’s the conversation as you would have heard it had you been hanging out with us.”

And speaking of not being guarded, Peters chose the title "Culturally Cancelled" because he wants to address the cancel culture movement that might take issue with his material. “I always look at it like, my style of comedy and the things I take on onstage and the things I talk about are all in line with what people want to cancel in general. So I wanted to hit it dead on and flip it that way. And also, you know, my stand-up comedy deals with a lot of cultural things. I think it’s just a nice play with it.”

However, when asked if he would cancel anything about his favorite kind of music, he did have some ideas. “I would cancel the entire younger generation of rap stars,” says Peters. “All these ‘Lil this’ - all the Lils. I’d get rid of all the Lils.”

Russell Peters, Sim Sarna, Clayton Peters, and Paul Canterna will executive produce the podcast for Cloud10 Media and iHeartMedia, and it will be available on all major podcast streaming platforms — including iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Castbox, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Stitcher — when it’s released on March 25. Culturally Cancelled is distributed by the iHeartPodcast Network.
