The Legendary Ron Burgundy is Coming to iHeartRadio and It's Kind of a Big Deal
Launching in early 2019, “The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will be co-produced by Funny Or Die and iHeartRadio
NEW YORK – December 3, 2018 – The legendary newscaster Ron Burgundy and iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its iHeartRadio platform—both of whom are kind of a big deal—announced today “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” The audio series will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019 and the iconic anchorman is beside himself with glee to once again grace the world with his presence.
“The Ron Burgundy Podcast” will be co-produced by Funny Or Die and is an iHeartRadio Original podcast. This momentous moment will mark the return of the legendary anchorman himself, Ron Burgundy, who has been delighting fans all over the world since the hit movie Anchorman was released in 2004. Burgundy has signed on for two 12-episode seasons, with season one to launch in the first quarter of 2019 and the second season expected to air mid-2019. Excerpts of the audio series will also be distributed across iHeartRadio broadcast radio stations and via social media channels.
"Listen, I don't know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about,” said Ron Burgundy, host of “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.” “I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life."
“To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”
Ron is still represented by his long-time agent Buzzy Chanterelle of Let's Make Magic Entertainment. Let's Make Magic is a local San Diego agency whose roster includes mostly stunt men, magicians and animal handlers. And let’s not forget Lance Alworth, who he represented for six months, and Chuck Muncie!
"By the way, if iHeartRadio says that I harassed them into making a podcast, it is a lie!! A boldface lie!!” said Burgundy. “Did I call them one hundred times in one day? Yes! But that's called persistence! I have filed suit against iHeartRadio for these salacious claims. I will be representing myself legally, since I currently do not have enough money to hire an attorney."
Burgundy will release an official trailer in the coming months on iHeartRadio and everywhere else podcasts are heard.

iHeartMedia To Acquire Jelli, Inc.
Acquisition is a Key Component of iHeartMedia’s SoundPoint Programmatic Platform to Help Advertisers Build Innovative Campaigns Targeting Key Audience Segments by Leveraging the Power of Broadcast Radio’s Scale
NEW YORK, NY – November 19, 2018 – iHeartMedia, the leading audio company in America which also has a greater reach in the U.S. than any other media outlet, today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Jelli, Inc., the technology company that powers its SoundPoint programmatic platform. The Jelli platform is the pioneering technology foundation for programmatic buying and selling of broadcast radio, and this acquisition will enable iHeartMedia to further leverage Jelli’s assets to continue to create for brands a digital-compatible buying platform for broadcast radio that includes targeting and creative optimization based on data and attribution tools compatible with the offerings of the major digital players. In addition, “Expressway from Katz,” the industry’s programmatic buying ad exchange for the country’s leading radio groups, will continue to remain independently run by Katz, powered by Jelli.
Broadcast radio is the #1 mass reach medium reaching 93 percent of the U.S. population and engaging consumers longer than even the largest digital platforms. While broadcast radio has the highest consumer engagement of any major medium, prior to the 2015 launch of SoundPoint -- iHeartMedia’s groundbreaking programmatic and automated ad buying solution powered by Jelli -- broadcast radio had lacked the targetability and real-time automated interface that digital offers. The SoundPoint platform allows advertisers and agencies to leverage iHeartMedia’s broadcast stations through both its radio and digital organizations, delivering both strong results and digital compatible analytics.
“Facebook and Google pioneered a new way for advertisers to interface with media partners to improve targetability, the ease of buying and measurement of results, and our programmatic platform puts us in the position to participate in the modern data driven ecosystem for our broadcast radio audience as well as our digital audiences,” said Brian Kaminsky, President of SmartAudio® and Analytics Group for iHeartMedia. “We have been excited by the advances we made with Jelli as our partner and the acceptance from our advertising partners.”
“At iHeart we believe marketing is both math and magic. The math is our rich data and insights about our users and how they relate to our partners’ products and services -- and the magic is the incredible creative ideas we bring to our partners, such as our iconic music events, award shows, influencers, podcasts, social reach and our unique on air promotions. Jelli allows us to do something no other company can do -- advertisers can now buy and use our broadcast assets, reach and impact just as they use the major digital players. We now offer heavy data and heavy creative innovation all in one place,” said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia, Inc. “We are excited about having Jelli not only for the platforms they are creating and have created for us, but also to lead our aggressive and innovative ad tech development.”
Today, iHeartMedia’s suite of innovative marketing optimization tools include SoundPoint (programmatic real-time audio ad buying platform) powered by Jelli and SmartAudio®, which enables advertisers to do impression-based planning of data driven audience segments. Additionally, SmartAudio® offers dynamic ad creative that utilizes real-time triggers such as weather, pollen counts, sports scores, mortgage rates and more to deploy different campaign messages based on what is happening in a specific market at a specific moment. SmartAudio® has allowed brands to use broadcast radio ads to dynamically serve the most relevant message in each market, at each moment, just as they have done with digital campaigns to ensure increased relevance and impact.
“By pairing iHeartMedia’s reach and multiplatform assets with our cloud-based advertising technology, we are positioned to provide a single platform for advertisers to reach all audiences, no matter where they are consuming audio,” said Michael Dougherty, co-founder and CEO of Jelli. “As audio consumption continues to explode, we are thrilled to be joining the iHeartMedia team, accelerating Jelli’s mission of transforming audio advertising through technology innovation.”
Over the past decade, Jelli has transformed radio broadcasting by creating the first cloud-based platform to support and improve the audio ecosystem, making it easier and faster to buy and run audio advertising. Their current offerings include RadioSpot, the only programmatic platform for radio broadcasters to sell and manage their advertising inventory and SpotPlan, the first and only programmatic platform for radio, delivering agencies and advertisers an automated way to efficiently plan and buy audio advertising and providing access to iHeartMedia as well as Expressway from Katz.
As part of the acquisition, Jelli will continue to operate as a company within iHeartMedia, Inc. led by President and CEO Michael Dougherty and his team. The Jelli division will continue to be based in Silicon Valley and will become iHeartMedia’s primary ad technology operation.
About Jelli
Jelli is the largest technology platform for the $40 billion global radio market. Our mission is to create the easiest and fastest way to buy and run audio advertising. In order to achieve this, we developed a cloud-based ad platform that enables advertisers and publishers to buy and sell audio advertising programmatically. Our patented technology is used by some of the largest broadcasters and advertisers in the audio marketplace, reaching hundreds of millions of listeners monthly and serving billions of ad impressions per year. Investors include Relay Ventures, Intel Capital, First Round Capital, iHeartMedia, Universal Music Group and several prominent angel investors. To learn more, visit www.jelli.com.

A version of Queen’s Classic Hit Song, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” in its entirety to Play Across More Than 650 iHeartMedia Music Radio Stations Nationwide on November 1 at 9 a.m. Local Time
New York, NY – October 25, 2018 – iHeartMedia, the leading audio company in America which also has a greater reach in the U.S. than any other media outlet, today announced it will celebrate the release of the Twentieth Century Fox and Regency Enterprises film, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” about the life of iconic rock band, Queen with a first ever nationwide song roadblock on November 1 at 9 a.m. across more than 650 iHeartMedia music stations and websites nationwide.
As part of the largest song roadblock in history, all 650-plus iHeartMedia music stations and websites nationwide will play an entire six-minute version of Queen’s iconic hit song, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” at 9 a.m. local time, providing unprecedented instant awareness for the film’s November 2 release.
In addition, iHeartMedia has enlisted some of the biggest names in music to share special tributes about how Queen impacted their music careers and lives on iHeartRadio.com/BohemianRhapsody. Local iHeartMedia stations throughout the country will also air promos and brand spots to count down the days until “Bohemian Rhapsody” is in theaters and remind fans about the roadblock. The promotion will also include an all-day digital takeover across the iHeartRadio network, including iHeart.com and station websites, featuring streaming audio and banners.
“There’s an amazing moment in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ where the executive at EMI Records, Ray Foster, says that radio will never play ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ because it’s too long,” said Tom Poleman, Chief Programming Officer for iHeartMedia. “He obviously was wrong. We’re thrilled to help celebrate Queen and this incredible film with a first-ever massive roadblock that only a company with iHeartMedia’s unparalleled reach could achieve.”
Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.
“This nationwide celebration of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ will allow multiple generations of music lovers to enjoy the work of the incomparable QUEEN and the late Freddie Mercury,” said Twentieth Century Fox Marketing executives Julie Rieger and Michelle Marks. “From lifelong QUEEN fans to those hearing the song for the first time, listeners across the country will be able experience the eclectic energy of this undeniably groundbreaking group through this exciting partnership with iHeartMedia.

iHeartRadio and HowStuffWorks Announce New iHeartRadio Original Podcast, The End of the World With Josh Clark
Launching on November 7, Stuff You Should Know co-host Josh Clark explores the future of humanity and the imminent dangers that lie ahead
NEW YORK-- October 17, 2018 -- iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its platform, today announced the upcoming launch of The End of the World in collaboration with HowStuffWorks. The new podcast will be hosted by Josh Clark, co-host of the award-winning podcast Stuff You Should Know. On the new show, Josh will discuss the existential risks humankind faces and assess how they may be coming in the form of the technology we’re beginning to develop today. He will be joined by a number of experts across the podcast’s ten episodes, from astrobiologists to philosophers to economists and transhumanists. Fans can hear the official trailer now.
The first three episodes of The End of the World With Josh Clark debuts on November 7 and subsequent episodes will air weekly each Wednesday and Friday. Clark’s compelling and insatiable curiosity will guide listeners through a dark debate around the astoundingly odd and unique nature of human intelligence and how that might either destroy or save the species. The podcast will discuss pending threats to human life and the importance of mastering emerging technology – like high-energy physics, risky biotech experiments, and nanotechnology – in order to secure a future for humanity that could last for billions of years. The episodes in the series focus on fascinating and cerebral concepts like the Fermi paradox, artificial intelligence, digital consciousness and something called the Great Filter – which may or may not spell the end of the human race in the next century or two.
“Over the course of creating this series, I’ve gone from just interested in this stuff to coming to believe that humanity is in real danger of going extinct by our own hand soon,” said Josh Clark, host of The End of the World. “During these ten episodes on The End of the World, I hope listeners will come to see it too and that we’ll all start to do something about it.”
For the past ten years, Clark has co-hosted 1,100 episodes of Stuff You Should Know, which have generated more than 900 million downloads across the world and built an immense fan-following for the show and his unique style. In addition to the on-demand podcast, Clark has hosted live shows in cities across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, New Zealand and Australia. A 12-minute version of the podcast titled Short Stuff was recently released as well.
“Josh is an excellent storyteller who has engaged and excited fans for many years with his iconic show Stuff You Should Know,” said Conal Byrne, President of iHeartMedia’s Podcasting Division. ”We’re thrilled to have him join the iHeartRadio Podcast Network as he continues to delight both his loyal fans and new listeners with this show, which tackles a fascinating and daunting topic — whether the human race might accidentally drive itself to extinction.”
