The 2019 iHeartRadio ALTer Ego Brings Alternative Rock’s Biggest Superstars Together For Star-Studded Concert At The Forum In Los Angeles

Twenty One Pilots, The Killers, Muse, Weezer, Rise Against, Bishop Briggs and The Revivalists To Perform Live On One Stage

New York, NY – January 21, 2019 – The 2019 iHeartRadio ALTer Ego, which featured the biggest names in Alternative Rock concluded Saturday evening with unforgettable performances from Twenty One Pilots, The Killers, Muse, Weezer, Rise Against, Bishop Briggs and The Revivalists, at the historic, “Fabulous” Forum in Los Angeles, California. The event also included special guest appearances by Darren Criss, Audrina Patridge, Teddi Mellencamp, Sarah Hyland, Wells Adams, Annaliese Puccini, Kendall Long, Ariana Madix, and Brandon Larracuente.

The event broadcasted live across over 70 Alternative and Rock iHeartRadio stations and livestreamed on LiveXLive, a global digital media company focused on live entertainment.

Now in its second year, the music of iHeartRadio’s popular Alternative Rock stations and the iHeartRadio App came to life with an extraordinary lineup that included these special moments:

  • Twenty One Pilots kicked off their set with a performance of their single, "Jumpsuit." In the pitch black arena, the band's Josh Dun walked out on stage carrying a torch while Tyler Joseph appeared in a black ski mask and his guitar as a car went up in flames behind him.
  • Off the release of their new politically charged single, “Land of the Free,” The Killers and frontman Brandon Flowers revved up the crowd, performing "The Man," "Mr. Brightside," "Somebody Told Me," "Human," "Space Man," "All These Things I've Done," "Read My Mind," and "When You Were Young."
  • Weezer hit the stage at iHeartRadio's ALTer EGO ahead of kicking off their spring 2019 tour to give fans a glimpse of what to expect, including performances of new tracks “Can’t Knock The Hustle” and “Zombie Bastards,” off their forthcoming album Invasion of Privacy, also known as The Black Album. Frontman Rivers Cuomo was joined by longtime bandmates Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner and delivered an epic medley of hits ranging from 1994’s “Undone (the Sweater Song)" to their current hit cover of Toto's "Africa."
  • Rise Against rocked the stage with their soaring guitar riffs, but the band had a big surprise for fans as they brought out Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello to perform "How Long." As Tim McIlrath sang, Morello continued to shred through the track with his guitar – using his teeth to do so, a true Rockstar moment.
  • The Revivalists truly embrace their fans – during their set lead singer David Shaw left the stage to serenade and shake hands with lucky guests. The band played a five-song set, which included tracks like "Oh No," "Change," their smash hit "All My Friends," the very dance-worthy, "You & I" and "Wish I Knew You."
  • Bishop Briggs, the first-ever female to headline the show, opened her with a raw rendition of “The Way I Do,” followed by jams “Hallowed Ground,” “White Flag,” “Wild Horses,” "Baby" and breakout hit “River." Mid-performance, Briggs joyously celebrated saying, "I'm the woman on this lineup! And I'm going to try not to cry ... there was the Women's March today and I just want to thank iHeart and 98.7 for representing female musicians so thank you."
  • Muse closed the 2019 iHeartRadio ALTer Ego. The band started off their set with their song "Pressure," followed by "Psycho," but one of the highlights of their performance was during fan favorite, "Uprising” – during the song Bellamy let everyone at The Forum sing in unison – a true uprising.

iHeartRadio ALTer Ego is part of iHeartMedia’s roster of nationally-recognized events including the iHeartRadio Music Festival, the iHeartRadio Music Awards, the nationwide iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Concert Tour Presented by Capital One®, iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina, the iHeartCountry Festival, the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards and iHeartRadio Wango Tango.

The iHeartPodcast Network’s Iconic “Stuff You Should Know” Podcast Becomes the First to Reach One Billion Downloads

The leading HowStuffWorks podcast continues to captivate audiences with its witty explanation of everything under the sun

NEW YORK -- January 18, 2019 --Stuff You Should Know,” an iHeartMedia podcast hosted by Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant in collaboration with HowStuffWorks, this month surpassed one billion downloads, making it the first-ever podcast to achieve this milestone and level of popularity. Launched in April 2008, the podcast has continuously educated listeners on a variety of topics in science, history, pop culture, urban legends, conspiracy theories and more. With over 1,000 episodes, a number of sold-out live events, a television season, and a new, streamlined version of the podcast titled ”Short Stuff,” the show and its riveting hosts have garnered a loyal following across the globe.

Hosts Josh and Chuck started the show 10 years ago, both armed with a curious spirit and a passion for teaching. Initially, episodes lasted only a few minutes but quickly grew longer as the duo tackled more intensive topics ranging from dream control to zombies to acid rain. By explaining both complex and simple topics in a fun and relatable way, “Stuff You Should Know” had a strong following from the start, and it has since been atop the podcast charts. In addition to one billion all-time downloads, the show averages 30 million monthly downloads, making it one of the Top 3 podcasts in 2018.

"’Stuff You Should Know’ was born out of a curiosity that Chuck and I both have about everything,” said Josh Clark, co-host of ‘Stuff You Should Know.’ "We aren't experts on any of the topics we discuss on the show, we just happen to be good at talking together about what we've dug up and I think that makes the podcast accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Reaching one billion downloads has really validated what we've built over the past 10 years and it makes us excited about the next 10 too. It's an amazing milestone for us and we're grateful to all the listeners around the world who helped grow that number."

Over the past ten years, “Stuff You Should Know” has earned a number of notable accolades. In 2014, the show won a Webby Award in the Mobile Podcast Division and in 2017 was a finalist at the Shorty Awards. “Stuff You Should Know” has most recently been nominated for the inaugural iHeartRadio Podcast Awards in the Podcast of the Year, Best Curiosity and Most Bingeable categories.

“In the last decade, podcasting has exploded into the mainstream, now producing some of highest-quality content in the world,” said Conal Byrne, President of the iHeartPodcast Network. “And one of the best parts about this medium is its listeners. The relationship between podcast creators and their audiences is like nothing else: intimate, authentic, passionate. These are the fans behind every one of these billion downloads. We are thrilled to be the first to reach this milestone, and we look forward to the next one billion.”

iHeartRadio, iHeartMedia’s all-in-one digital music, podcast, on demand and live streaming radio service, is partnered with all major podcast publishers ranging from NPR and WNYC to ESPN and Gimlet.  In September, iHeartMedia also acquired Stuff Media, LLC, the leading for-profit publisher of entertaining and informative podcast content, which includes the HowStuffWorks podcasting business. iHeartMedia Launches Redesigned iHeartRadio Family App and Announces Integrations with Honda, Samsung, Google and Roku Devices at CES 2019

LAS VEGAS – January 8, 2019 – iHeartMedia today announced multiple new consumer technology integrations for iHeartRadio, the company’s free all-in-one digital music, on demand, podcasting and live streaming radio service, during the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The integrations include the Honda Dream Drive Platform, the new Bixby from Samsung, Roku devices, and Google’s Android TV and Android Auto. Additionally, iHeartRadio today launched its fully redesigned iHeartRadio Family app on Amazon Fire Tablet with iOS and Android coming soon.

As the leading audio company in America with a greater reach in the U.S. than any other media outlet, iHeartMedia is uniquely poised to lead the way in a new era of media consumption – one where virtual assistants, smart speakers and wearables are experiencing explosive growth. By integrating with the most innovative devices on the market, iHeartRadio enables consumers to access the music, personalities and content they love, whenever and wherever they are. iHeartRadio is currently available on more than 250 platforms and 2,000 devices, including on digital auto dashes, tablets, wearables and smartphones, on virtual assistants, smart speakers, TVs and gaming consoles.

“2018 was a momentous year for iHeartMedia, filled with acquisitions, partnerships, integrations and the development of an unprecedented podcasting platform,” said Darren Davis, President of iHeartRadio and iHeartMedia Networks Group. “Thanks to our ever-expanding list of platforms, iHeartRadio can be enjoyed nearly everywhere — from cars to wearables to gaming consoles and more. We’re excited to announce even more integrations this week as we look forward to another successful year of providing listeners everywhere with an exceptional music and audio listening experience.”

Full details on the iHeartRadio Family app redesign and integrations can be found below:

iHeartRadio Family

iHeartRadio Family now boasts new features, content, parental control settings and more. Live Radio, Playlist Radio and Podcasts are now available in the app for a total of more than 80 pieces of family-friendly content. Improved navigation now includes a scrolling mechanism that moves top to bottom instead of left to right, and now has three tabs (All, Music and Stories) for more intuitive browsing.

Additionally, parents now have more control over the app experience with “Hide this Station” and “Hide this Story” features, which enable parents to manage certain content through the “Parental Controls” tab on the Settings page. Download iHeartRadio Family on Amazon Fire Tablet, with iOS and Android devices coming soon.

Honda Dream Drive

Honda is demonstrating its prototype Honda Dream Drive, the automotive industry’s first integrated driver and passenger infotainment, commerce, services and rewards dashboards within the vehicle environment. In partnership with iHeartRadio, Honda will also explore in the Dream Drive platform the integration of live broadcast radio content (AM/FM signals) simultaneously with digitally streamed audio content. Drivers will be able to access and interact with their favorite iHeartRadio content, including thousands of live stations from across the U.S., custom artist radio stations and more than 20,000 podcasts. Experience Honda Dream Drive in the all-new 2019 Honda Passport at its CES booth in LVCC North Hall #7900.

Bixby from Samsung

iHeartMedia continues its strong partnership with Samsung and unveils a voice-enabled integration with the new Bixby, Samsung’s intelligence platform, that will enable users in the U.S to seamlessly call up specific live and iHeartRadio original radio stations. Now, listening to iHeartRadio on Bixby-enabled devices will be easier than ever. Soon, listeners will also be able to enjoy music playlists and their favorite podcasts. Experience the integration at Samsung’s booth in LVCC Central Hall #15006.

Roku Devices

iHeartRadio users can now use simple voice commands with Roku streaming players and Roku TVs with Roku TV Wireless Speakers connected to listen to all their favorite live radio stations, artist stations and podcasts. With Roku TV Wireless Speakers, users can bring music to life with powerful performance via stereo separation, vibrant high frequencies and rich bass, plus, full, clear sound. For a frictionless experience, users can give voice commands like “Play iHeartRadio Countdown on iHeartRadio” to a Roku TV Voice Remote or a Roku Touch™. Roku TV Wireless Speakers are the first speakers built by Roku and are designed exclusively for Roku TV™ to be incredibly easy to set up, simple to use and deliver premium sound.

Android TV

Android TV devices with the Google Assistant built-in allow for a more seamless listening experience. With this integration, listeners can easily pick radio stations, podcasts and playlists from the personalized recommendations curated by iHeartRadio that appear automatically on their home screen using just their voice.  Additionally, listeners can activate devices with far field microphones by saying, “Hey Google,” or by pressing the mic button on the remote to quickly find their favorite iHeartRadio live radio station.

With a complete design refresh and the addition of podcasts, free music playlists and the Google Assistant, users can now enjoy a more delightful and frictionless iHeartRadio experience in their living rooms on any Android TV devices including smart televisions, set top boxes and streaming devices.

Android Auto

Listeners can easily access even more of their favorite iHeartRadio features in the car including music playlists and podcasts in addition to thousands of live radio stations and custom artist stations with the latest version of Android Auto. Discovering new and existing iHeartRadio content is now more intuitive—the new large album art views makes it easier to quickly select something to play, while the improved voice search experience enables drivers to just say “OK Google” to find music without taking their eyes of the road. Drivers and passengers can also view alternate iHeartRadio search results and browse through optimized imagery.

iHeartRadio currently has more than 125 million registered users, a milestone that it has reached faster than any other digital music service and has surpassed two billion downloads. In 2018, iHeartMedia acquired Stuff Media, the leading for-profit publisher of entertaining and informative podcast content, which includes the HowStuffWorks (HSW) podcasting business as well as a slate of premium podcast content. This acquisition increased iHeartMedia’s position as the solid No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally, and No. 2 overall (Podtrac, 2018). Following its acquisition of Stuff Media, iHeartMedia acquired Jelli, Inc., the technology company that powers its SoundPoint programmatic platform. In addition, iHeartMedia can be heard in every vehicle reaching more than a quarter of a billion people monthly through its 850 broadcast radio stations nationwide.
